Close Relationships In Gary D. Schmit's Trouble

Due to certain circumstances Henry is more able to develop close relationships than chay in Trouble by Gary D. Schmit. Henry is a boy from a small town whose world was rocked. His brother franklin just died after getting hit by a car. His sister Luisa, is a massive wreck who refuses to come out of her room. Sanborn his friend tries to help Henry get through this terrible time. Chay Chouan is accused for hitting Franklin with the car, but he is really covering for Louisa. Henry is more capable to develop strong relationships with others rather than Chay. Although Black Dog is both Chay and Henry’s dog, Henry has grown closer with Black Dog, since chay lost Black Dog by force.. When Henry finds Black Dog, he looks like he just went through a hurricane, but Henry felt like he just went through a tornado. This bond brought the two together more than any connection could, and it led to Black Dog following Henry around on his adventure. Even when they left him in their hotel room, Black Dog still escaped to find Henry, and even though Black Dog caused a lot of damage he still tried to help him. ¨There wasn't much to say as they stood at the cottage doorway, still hungry, Black Dog eating the extra frozen muffin that Henry had carefully filched”(222). Henry has developed such a close bond with Black Dog that he views Black Dog as a brother. He is taking Black Dog instead of his brother to feel …show more content…
Henry is very distraught when Chay picks Henry and Sanborn up in the same pickup that killed his brother. He forces Chay to pull over and fight him. “He did not know how many times he hit Chay before he felt his arm weaken and grow weighty”(183). After Henry fights Chay, he understands the real truth, why Chay did not fight back, because he was taking the blame for louisa. Henry and Chay become really close, since they have both felt loss and they understand each
