Close-Knit Groups

Decent Essays
I do believe it is possible to form such a close-knit group in contemporary American society because sometimes people who went through the same things can become really close to one another, but they don't necessarily need to have the same experiences just agree on the same things. For example me and my friend group some of us have went through the same things but not all of us and some of use have been friends since elementary school and we all agree mostly on the same things but we all have different taste were like a mixture of different people, but we are still we are all extremely close

In conclusion, this movie analysis examined the three stages of group development from the movie, The Breakfast Club. Fantasies provide an escape from the daily hassles of life. When one thinks of a fantasy, one may conjure up things like unicorns flying in the wind, elves dancing around a Christmas tree, or like the poem expresses, touching dragonflies and stars. All incidences are unreal, imaginative. Ernest Bormann, however, had another perspective on fantasy altogether. Fantasy is dimensionally acquired through dramatization and rhetorical vision.…

People come together for many different reasons. In the days since my Uncle Ricky got hurt on his motorcycle and found out he had cancer people have really come together and been there for him. People have gathered together and thrown him a “Celebration of Life” party that over 150 people came together to celebrate. My Uncle Ricky was a truck driver so we brought in the trucks and blew the horn for him one last time. Just like in the movie Freedom Writers, how the black people came together with the Mexicans and Cambodian people and had parties.…

The case studies “The Battle Over Working as a Virtual Group” and “How Do You Manage Conflicting Needs and Goals?” are great examples of what truly happens in small groups everywhere. While “The Battle Over Working as a Virtual Group” (VG Case for short) displays what can potentially happen when forming a group that only communicates via the Internet and other means besides face-to-face interaction, it compares in many ways with “How Do You Manage Conflicting Needs and Goals?” (N&G Case for short); but also contains many differences as well. Looking at the VG Case, we see a group who was assigned an oral report about the Civil War and it was decided to make the group a virtual group in order to not find it necessary to meet face-to-face.…

The team of four that I decided to work with were Abby R, Ben, and Emily T. Overall, I liked my choice of group members. We all got along pretty well with each other, and it helped that I knew Abby and Ben on a personal level. This allowed us to get together at each other’s houses, and work together on the project. This allowed for a much easier collaborative environment, and it also allowed us to collaborate on everything together, instead of one person being assigned one part, and the other person another. I feel like this was a much easier way of creating the presentation, rather than having everybody independent of each other.…

Group communication is one of the most important types of communication in the world today. In a society that is becoming more and more engulfed in themselves, through cell phones, and social media, it is important that the value of communicating with one another is not lost or forgotten about. Our group thought long and hard about a movie that would best portray group communication and all of its components, and what better movie than one all about a team of cheerleaders? Bring It On is a movie that displays the characteristics and dynamics of a group, and how they communicate in every way possible. Groups survive because of the members! This includes the group leader and all participants in the group. With that said a group must come together and for a bond. Northen states “When groups are not able to develop the cohesiveness that motivates members to remain in the group, the result is that the group disbands, either by decision of the members or simply because members stop coming.” As various personalities make up the memberships of a group there are various challenges from group member roles a group leader may face.…

In some certain scenarios there is always a winner and there is always a loser. If there was someone higher than everyone in the whole world looking at us, he or she can spot the losers in the blink of an eye. But even if that were true, then everyone would be a loser, because even if you're a winner then the people surrounding you would think you aren't one. Everyone in life is judged in a different form, and there is always that saying that everyone is reminded of, but nobody follows it. " Never judge a book by it's cover", is how we know we can trust someone or not.…

Admittedly, it is within human nature to group similar people together as a way of organizing and making sense of the vastly diverse world around us. Psychology provides an explanation for this through the term social-categorization: the innate cognitive process in which people make sense of the complex world they live in by allocating similar individuals into social groups. Albeit being a natural human tendency, social grouping, more often than not, turns into stereotyping and discrimination. Consequently leading to discrimination and incorrect rationalizations of select social groups: the most compelling example of inappropriate social-categorization being classism. Classism is defined according to the Merriam-Webster online dictionary as…

Peers. Miller (2000) stated that, “collective behavior is a term sociologists use to refer to a miscellaneous set of behaviors in which large numbers of people engage.” Collective behavior refers to relatively spontaneous and relatively unstructured behavior by large numbers of individuals acting with or being influenced by other individuals. Relatively spontaneous is defined as, “somewhat spontaneous but also somewhat planned” (Giddings 1908), while relatively unstructured means that the behavior is planned yet it is also unpredictable.…

The Contrast of Community and Spiritual Formation in the Old and New Testament The biblical concept of community permeates the Scriptures whether we are discussing the Old Testament or the New Testament (Pettit 2008). From the beginning of creation, the idea of community has always been God’s idea. The first place in the context of the creation story where God declares “this is not good” is in reference to Adam when He says “It is not good for man to be alone” . We were created for fellowship which means we were also created for community.…

A person’s knowledge that some people will be on their side and others will not, helps to shape their social identity (Hinsz & Nickell, 2004). Through conformity groups are able to shape group members way of thinking and thus individuals will adjust their attitudes and conduct to that of the group (Hart, 1998). Previously, I had overheard two staff members discussing the short comings of the last director and their disappointment in how things turned out, so I felt it was odd they did not feel as free discussing it at the staff meeting with the larger group. Instead, they were agreeing with the general comments made by the other staff members during the group discussion.…

Someone once said that “Bad friends are like paper cuts; both are annoyingly painful and makes you wish you were more careful. There is a question has been burning in our hearts from the very first day of preschool until the very day others sweep our doorstep clean because we are too old to do it ourselves. From the very time ‘Teacher’ , which we were surprised later in life that this was neither her first nor last name, paired us with another small person, to interact, colour, talk and play, even to share our treasured and magical play dough. Though I must admit, those were the rough days.…
