Overall, I believe that legalizing cloning is a bad idea and the disadvantages overpower the benefits. Especially, because we can’t be sure how safe of a practice cloning would become. Cloning is not right because there would most likely be a lack of uniqueness and human individuality, it has not been proven safe, and there are many problems that may accompany the ability clone
First of all, I believe that cloning is not worth the risks. Cloning would most likely lead to the lack of diversity in different species, especially humans. Given the right and ability to change human DNA and genetics into the best versions, and inevitably create perfect human beings, would create a lack of uniqueness and individuality. That individuality and diversity is what makes us human. Sure, changing ‘bad’ genetics may help many people who suffer from genetic diseases or disorders, but it is basically expected of this …show more content…
One health risk is that cloning has lead to faster aging. The idea of cloning is to harvest cells from a donor, raise them to embryonic stage in a petri dish, and then place them in a surrogate to grow to term. However, there is a big possibility that the age of the donor could be imprinted on the embryo and that could cause premature aging and death. Not to mention, there is still many things that scientists would have to learn before being able to fully understand what they are doing to make it as safe as possible. 95% of animal cloning has ended in failure due to genetic defects, and cloning should be considered unsafe because of it. The success rate of cloning ranges from 0.1 percent to 3 percent, which essentially means that scientists have 970 to 999 fails in every 1,000 tries to create a clone. There can also be many problems in the later development of these clones. Cloned animals that have survived tend to be larger at birth, than their natural counterparts. Scientists labeled this phenomenon as “Large Offspring Syndrome” or “LOS.” The clones with LOS also have abnormally larger organs, which can lead to breathing, blood flow, and other problems. Some clones with LOS have also developed brain or kidney malfunctions as well as impaired immune systems, which caused them problems later in life. Cloning is not safe, and it can cause many health problems. The benefits of cloning,
