Clive Staples Lewis was born on November 29, 1898, in Belfast Ireland. His two parents, Albert and Flora, loved to read. Lewis grew up surrounded by books, which possibly sparked his interest in literature in college. The first book, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, was published in 1950, and the last book, The Last Battle, was published in 1956. Lewis published a total of seven books in the series. The story follows various children and their adventures throughout a magical land called Narnia. There, they befriend many strange creatures and go on daring quests to save the kingdom. Lewis’s series has sold over 100 million copies in 47 different languages.
Not only was Lewis an author, but he also maintained his career in teaching. In 1954, he assumed a teaching position at Cambridge University. There, he met his wife, Joy Davidman, whom he married in 1956. Lewis was overcome with grief when Joy died in 1960, three years before him. Shortly after he retired from his position at Cambridge, Lewis died on November 22, 1963, in Headington, Oxford, where he is buried in the Holy Trinity Church. The media coverage of his death was greatly overshadowed by the John F. Kennedy assassination, which had occurred on the same day.
In conclusion, Clive Lewis created wonderful stories for his readers to enjoy, and wrote one of the most well known children's literature series ever, which both children and adults have fallen in love with over the years. Lewis had written 74 books before he passed, definitely leaving something to remember him
