This is the sort of life I want to lead. Being able to apply the knowledge and skills that I have acquired and then seeing its effect, especially with regards to the wellbeing of others, is something that I find joy in.

I began volunteering at my high school’s science club for year seven’s in which I was able to share and help the communication of science through a combination of discussions and lab work. Following this was almost a year volunteering at Trafford General Hospital, providing a trolley service.

I have recently graduated with a Bachelors degree in Medical Sciences. The aspects of the course that I found particularly interesting were; Anatomy, physiology and micro-pathology. Anatomy and physiology, because of the relationship between structure and function, also the fact that there is, I think, a purpose to design. With micro-pathology, learning about how bacteria and viruses interact with our bodies and travel, especially during the Ebola outbreak in West Africa,

Music is something that I and a lot of people enjoy; if it could induce a state of healing I wanted to know how and the credibility of it doing so. After, I discovered the ability of music therapy to reverse dementia and a potential to increase healing rates. Imagine the relief to families and an increase in hospital bed availability. However, I came to the conclusion that more randomised controlled trials were needed for the therapy to be taken seriously. Apart from writing a report on the topic, I gave an oral power-point presentation to a group of fellow researchers and supervisors, which was a

For absolutely no reason, other than I thought it might interest me, I took human anatomy and physiology and that has helped give me an edge in different scenarios. From human anatomy and physiology I learned the basic human structure with bones, tendons, ligaments, and muscles as well as some of the basic systems for the human body; such as the cardiovascular, urinary, and digestive tract. This has benefitted me quite a bit since that class two years ago. One instance was when we learned about the digestive tract and how that functions in relation to different foods. I began to notice my sister getting sick frequently and did a little digging into her food history and when approximately she began to feel queasy.…

“No one has ever become poor by helping” quote by Anne Franklin. There is more gratitude and blessings in giving than in receiving and I have had the opportunity to witness this statement. My experience in the medical field has shaped my view of medicine and sparked my interest in becoming a Physician Assistant (PA) with a desire to help underserved communities, specifically the Latino community. From being a child to current day, I served as a translator for my mother whenever we had doctor visits. I joined a program when I was a sophomore that allowed me to leave my high school for half a day and go to a different school that solely focused on healthcare. There I was able to discover and explore all different medical fields and learned basic health procedures. After a year into the program, I was able to go to clinics and job shadow at different facilities; dialysis, internal medicine, x-ray, emergency room, etc. I got firsthand experience with different healthcare careers and after I finished my rotations, I became interested in the radiology department.…

The field is always growing and changing and I yearn to undertake in this lifetime of learning. I find it so exciting that one day I can serve people by improving their health and do so using cutting-edge technologies, some which may have yet to be invented. I may not be able to change the world on the whole, but small actions can have a big influence. I look forward to creating a positive impact on a personal level, treating holistically and compassionately, as this is a career path that calls for an understanding of the human experience as much as it does an understanding of the human body. There are many reasons why I decided to apply to Mayo Clinic School of Medicine, but the most prominent one is Mayo’s devotion to developing each of its students. It's mentorship program that assigns first-year students to upper-level class members is particularly noteworthy because it fosters a tight-knit community. Coming from a Bukharian Jewish family, where community is valued, this program will be ideal in helping me develop as a well-rounded physician. No other school that I am applying to provides this individualized focus on its new matriculates, which I believe will help simplify the transition to medical school. Furthermore, I am drawn to Mayo’s small class size and faculty-to-student ratio.…
