However, sceptics have questioned how the concept is sometimes interpreted, arguing that there is unclear logical and pragmatic examination of its value in professional development. Therefore, developing a reflective report is an undertaking that needs to be approached with caution, more so if individual reflection and critical thinking are to be rooted. The purpose of this reflective report is to reflect on the collaborative boat bus project performance and the experiences of working within a multidisciplinary group. The report will give consideration to the feedback we obtained from the client and from Adam Smith (tutor) and how we then applied this feedback to feed in the report writing. An iterative model, meaning learning through participating, somewhat adapted to the one in Bulman and Schultz (2013)’s ‘Reflective Practice in Nursing p232’, Gibbs (1988)’s reflective cycle explains the significance of the evaluation process, especially building on negative as well as positive feedback.…
Yesterday in clinical I was on the labor and delivery unit. As everyone know, mom and baby is not my preference. For me, the problem is not caring for mom or even seeing a delivery, it is caring for the tiny baby. I wanted to be on the labor and delivery side because I hoped to see a delivery. There was one delivery on the unit, but unfortunately the mom was not receptive to having a student in the room.…
In relation to my Nursing 495learning plan, my identified goal was to increase my independence and enhance my critical thinking so that I will be able to make sound clinical judgments. This goal was developed before the start of the clinical and influenced my decision to complete a practicum on a medicine unit because I wanted to build a strong foundation for my nursing practice. This topic, therefore, influenced my transition from student to beginning graduate nurse by enhancing my ability to solve problems through the use of the nursing process. Furthermore, working in the commitment phase where I am responsible for the choices I make is helping me build confidence and independence.…
I am glad you brought up that faculty needs to be “competent” in Evidence Based Practice (EBP). I had the opportunity to work for a college as a Clinical Adjunct Instructor (CAI). In doing so, CAI were required to monitor, teach, and be available for questions in the clinical lab prior to going to sites. I had a hard time adjusting to the skills check off list due to some of the skills were not up to date such as Foley catheter insertions. When I brought this to their attention including providing EBP literature.…

The setting for this intervention is a clinical setting where the victim will have a medical assessment. Psychical exam will be done and a sexual abuse medical evaluation will also be administered for the laboratory tests. Also, the victim will be doing assessments which include obtaining background history and determining the needs of the victim. This may include assessing the physical, emotional, and behavioral consequences of sexual abuse. By doing the assessment, it will help correlate the care for the child and show a better understanding of the child.…
When I began working for the Veteran’s Administration as a personal care attendant for veterans that are wheelchair bound I had no idea how profoundly one veteran would affect me. This veteran, whom I will refer to as D-man, would become part of my life for 3 years. This is the first experience that I would have with a totally dependent quadriplegic. Even though I have worked as a medical assistant for many years, this was the first time that I would get to experience up close and personal, the day-in and day-out challenges facing paraplegics and quadriplegics, not only for D-man but also his mother who is his full-time caregiver.…
First, l am thankful for all who have contributed to seeing me to the end. I also hope to continue to reflect on myself whether by journaling, volunteering and other activities to promote quality of care using evidence based practice in my clinical experience. The fact that the program was online worked for me, as it gave me the flexibility and time to complete all class work on time. I would suggest that the school have a group of past students that can encourage other students and maybe serve as mentors. I would hope the faculty keep on having the weekly discussion board as this helps all students especially when you think you have no idea of what you are doing.…
I started this class having only taken two other classes in the counseling program. Although I enjoyed those classes, they did not discuss what you actually do in a therapy session with a client. I felt I was still missing the knowledge of how a therapy session actually worked. This class has taught me many things that have allowed me to become more comfortable with what therapy is and how it works. Whether it was picking out patterns or even practical things, the topics addressed in this class have helped me to grow and change as a therapist as well as help me integrate my faith with the therapy process.…
“What is your name? No, no, what brings you here today? Wait I am supposed to already know that. O.K, I’ll introduce myself first and take it from there”. Those were literally my thought the second before I entered the door to meet my client.…
Teamwork and collaboration, good communication, and confidence are the three strengths I believe I demonstrated during this rotation. My clinical rotation as a student nurse did not only imply observing the providers, but also meant active participation on my part. Being engaged, enabled me to put into practice what I have learned in theory. The first day of my rotation, the nurse permitted me to augment the Pitocin dose by two units after 20 minutes. I thought that was exciting because I learned about the medication in the class and participated in administering it.…
• Explain the importance of reflective practice in continuously improving the quality of service provided. The importance of reflective practice to improve the quality of the service we provide it is to focus on what has worked well and what needs improving. Also for us to use a different approach and to apply it when needed. We may need to consider new approaches and new ways of learning to help us develop and progress in our careers, and achieve a greater self awareness and the best support we can provide to the people we support, meeting care standards and expectations in social care at all times.…
In matching Janet’s posture, language and tone, I reflected back to Janet her external behaviours. When I commented to Janet “and because you know that at the base of it’s not you it’s him” I put into my words her thoughts regarding his behaviour. Janet’s response of “well that’s the thing, I don’t let it affect me anymore…” allowed her to then explore why her reactions to her ex-husband had changed. I found this skill of counselling particularly difficult in this session due to our friendship.…
My first clinical experience was at St. Vincent hospital on a geriatric unit, when I was a second year nursing student. During my time there, nurses often approached me to provide small learning experiences and teach students how to be efficient. When a nurse on the unit asked for help with a bed bath for a patient with whom I was not familiar, I agreed. I wanted to get as much experience as I could. The nurse led me to the patient 's room right away.…
Nursing is a lifelong learning. To grow professionally in nursing I need to reflect and analyse on my clinical experiences. It will help me to improve my professional practice, gain more knowledge and skills, and increase my critical thinking abilities and confidence in dealing with difficult situations. To reflect on what I had learned during my past work experiences I will use Gibbs reflective cycle. It was my first week of work as an Operating Theatre (OT) nurse.…
