The first few weeks working at Humber River Hospital in the Endoscopy Department has opened up my eyes. It has led me to believe that the health industry is appropriate based on my personality and values. A major role I provided towards patients was a source of communication, mostly for their own personal comfort as the department is always busy and not every nurse can attend to each patient. Even though it is only a minor type of surgery, many patients still felt nervous, so being able to reassure each one felt rewarding. In addition, once I “broke their shell”, they became more open-minded and willing to talk.
