Plan for Sustainability There was a lack of formal training program to orient and prepare graduate clinical preceptors at the UW SON prior to this project. A graduate clinical preceptor training program was developed and pilot-tested at the SoN on January 9, 2018 with nine participants from the UW Health General Internal Medicine and Family Medicine. The major accomplishment of this project is the development of a half-day training workshop for graduate clinical preceptors of advanced practice nursing students. Other accomplishments included the creation of three video vignettes of preceptor and preceptee interactions, which were used during the four hour preceptor training workshop. The workshop will be continued to be held at the SoN in Madison. However, there is a need to create an online preceptor training program to reach out to the preceptors who are located in rural settings and inconvenient to drive down to Madison. The use of multimedia to deliver didactic content will also help to address some barriers such as time constraints for preceptors and current healthcare system policy changes related to provider production quotas. Many preceptors are volunteering to precept and sometimes participation in such training program requires additional time off from work. In addition, the participation also demands time away from family. Hence, lack of time could preclude preceptors from precepting a student as well as participating in a training …show more content…
There should be a personnel responsible to collect and maintain data on the retention and increment on the number of graduate clinical preceptors. The team members can keep track of these numbers by using the retention questionnaire and also looking at the number of preceptor pool for each semester. Additionally, the ongoing evaluation of program can be maintained by using the “Program Evaluation” survey to continuous improve the clinical experience for both the graduate students and clinical preceptors. Therefore, all these steps will help in the sustainability of the graduate clinical preceptor training
