Simulated Assessment Critique This is my critique for my simulated assessment for clinical skills. My clinical skills procedure was assisting with feeding, a skill that is essential in ensuring that patients are getting the right amount of nutrients needed to recover. The Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool (MUST) (BAPEN 2003) is used in clinical areas to assess the nutrition needs of each individual, by using their body mass index (BMI: weight divided by height squared), whether they have lost any unplanned weight in the last six months and whether or not they have an acute disease which could cause loss of appetite the MUST score determines how at risk they are of malnutrition. If a patient has a high score using MUST then they should be…

Hondros and all of the providers who allow us to attend their campuses to gain experience each get a benefit from the cooperation achieved by clinical rotation. Hondros attains the ability to provide its students with the required clinical hours to earn their degrees as RNs and to sit for the NCLEX. The facilities that allow us to complete clinicals onsite can preview the quality of the nurses being educated at Hondros and perhaps fulfill of their staffing needs with the graduates they help generate through Hondros. Additionally, the students supplement their existing staff for the time periods they are…

As a Registered Nurse, I begin my shift by accepting report from the previous nurse. I understand that I am orientating a new Licensed Practical Nurse who is almost complete with her orientation. I have three patients, and I am expecting a new admission from the Emergency Department, who presents with chest pain. My job is to delegate the appropriate patient or patients to a licensed practical nurse after I introduce myself and the LPN. It is very important for me to know how to prioritize the patient care.…

Chapter Two: Respect in the Institutional Settings of Health Care The thoughts on contemplation on institutional setting differences have evolved once I have entered and spent few days in the second clinical rotation placement at Fellowship Community. I was amazed how the skilled nursing facility differs from the outpatient facility I have spent previous seven weeks. The pace, work load, and condition of the patient's were so different that I had to remind myself to back up and adjust to the facility's routine after the busy outpatient facility environment.…

I was dismissed from the Medical Technician at Hinds Community College; due to attendance issues. In the spring of 2003, I missed more days than allowed during my clinical rotation. In order to maximize my ability to assist future patients, it is my dream to pursue a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree at Wilmington University. I wish to receive training at the doctoral level, as I am highly interested in enhancing my clinical knowledge and ability to practice more independently. I feel that my previous nursing education, as well as the many years of working experience obtained, has prepared me for the challenges to be encountered by a nurse at the highest level of clinical practice. The changing demands of this nation 's complex healthcare environment require the highest level of scientific knowledge and practice expertise to assure quality patient outcomes.…

Professional Practice Assignment #2 was, in many ways, unlike any other project I have done so far in pursuit of this degree; thusly, it was incredibly informative and educational. The time spent writing the code for the 5 functions themselves may have been minimal, but that fact added to the rest of the experience. The assignment did indeed feel as though it was practice for professional life, as such, the bulk of our time was spent communicating amongst one another, researching testing and continuous integration tools, and documenting our research. I truly appreciate that the focal point of the assignment is well placed on the testing, and that is achieved by having the python functions done in advance. Similarly, the project gave the class the chance to learn first-hand about the benefits of continuous integration.…

The nursing profession is fortunate enough to hold an immeasurable amount of the public’s trust during their most vulnerable moments, in the hope of receiving optimal client centred care. A recent survey discovered that nurses are second to firefighters in a list of most trusted occupations (CNA, 2007). Moreover, nurses have the privilege of being in a self-regulated and self-governed profession. This means that the Canadian government believes that Ontario’s nursing regulatory body, College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), is best qualified to appropriately define its own members’ norms of practice and boundaries (Schiller, 2014). It is incumbent upon nurses to continuously justify that they are deserving of this honour by delivering uncompromised…

However, when reflecting upon this incident I found this was not the case. I was surprised how much self-doubt I experienced during the incident and I feel this was due to the fact I was inexperienced and new to the ward. I believe that although this was a very unfortunate incident for Mrs Clarke it was definitely a positive learning experience for me. Mrs Clarke’s dignity had been severely compromised throughout the incident and her wishes were not respected.…

This clinical rotation was interesting to find out about the population health and dynamics of Danbury and the surrounding cities. During the past five weeks, I have encountered many different diseases, people, environments, and professions in nursing that gave me a broader idea of what community nursing truly is. I got to experience four weeks first hand with two different visiting nurses in the Fairfield and Danbury area and one week with the Health Department going on health inspections at two different places. With this, I give you my reflection of what my experience has been so far in this semester. My first week with the Western Connecticut Home Care was exciting to be oriented with the administration and getting an overall picture of what to expect in visiting nursing.…

The Community Nursing (3QQ3) course has been an eye opening journey for me in to the world of community nursing. At the start of the initial course doing the practice tools I was quite apprehensive and had no idea what to expect. It was hard in the early few weeks to see how this course would evolve. But, as I became oriented and more familiar with the community the bigger picture began to form. Indeed, the windshield survey was a great tool to assess our community.…
