As a healthcare provider, clinical practice guidelines could be extremely beneficial when tasked with needing to make difficult decisions that will affect patient health outcomes. The purpose for clinical practice guidelines is to assist health care providers and patients alike in forming appropriate decisions to optimize wellness using a systematic review of evidence to assess the benefits and/or harm of alternative care options using literary references, scientific data, and taking into account physician knowledge and experience, as well as patients’ preferences to inform their decisions.

They may fail to understand the terms and content of guideline databases and online risk calculators and so be less willing use them or trust their ability to use them correctly because they lack the background
