Informatics is the combination of the science of engineering, computers, and information. Whereas, nursing informatics allows nurses to understand the process they use to convert raw data into the wisdom they need to care for patients, this process …show more content…
Blood pressure monitors are vital to nursing care in monitoring blood pressure, pulse, and sometimes oxygen level. This data is utilized to assess the patient, monitor abnormal findings, and to make adjustments in medication protocol. The other equipment mentioned is a fetal non-stress testing monitor. This is used in my office for pregnancy patients 30 weeks or more gestation to monitor fetal heart rate, contraction pattern, and fetal movement. The data is utilized to determine the fetal well-being at the time of testing. If there are abnormal findings we can send the patient for further testing.
Two examples of nursing administration’s use of informatics to improve patient care are automated staff scheduling and quality assurance with outcome analysis. Automated staff scheduling helps to organize staffing allocation in order to provide safe patient care. This system can analyze provider coverage in correlation with nursing staff. Quality assurance with outcome analysis could be hand audits. This monitors the required process for hand hygiene to prevent the spread of infection to
