In the case of the State of Washington’s EDIE database, information technology and systems support helped in managing the EDIE data. It organized, stored, assessed, analyzed, and interpreted patient data whenever they visited the Emergency room. The data in the EDIE database became information and then knowledge to physicians which supported them in making fast decisions on patients admitted to the emergency room. Thus, having a well-managed database puts an organization at a competitive advantage. The emergency visits dropped as well as substantial amount of the state’s Medicaid costs.…
The major components of Clinical Decision-Support System (CDSS) were generated to manage daily workflow in a more effective manner in regards to clinician’s cognitive thing. This would also help aid in…
Furthermore, in a pre-hospital environment the process of applying knowledge and skills is a key part of a paramedic’s clinical role which often involves a chaotic and unpredictable environment. Throughout their decision making process, paramedics must continuously evaluate and decide the degree to which they are making the correct clinical decisions in relation to a particular patient. (Parson and O’Brien, 2013) Bledshoe et al (2007) wrote that paramedics are often required to formulate clinical decisions based on a number of options, often independently, and in order to do so, paramedics are required to use their clinical experience and knowledge to formulate a clinical decision focused on patient care. Furthermore, paramedics apply clinical experience and independently formulated decisions as they develop and implement a management…
I do not think that KDDM and PBE, while useful for predicting patient outcomes and identifying weaknesses with certain interventions, will ever completely replace the traditional methods of establishing good practice. Rather, more traditional methods, such as EBP, will be combined with KDDM and PBE to significantly improve patient care. Integrating these methods into one will establish a practice founded not only on proven research but also the simultaneous collection of information about the chosen intervention and their potential outcome. This hybrid practice will be centered on the individual patient will provide the possible chance of recovery and superior care. For so long healthcare practices have been built on the traditional method…
Over the last 20 years an increasing development of the understanding of how physicians combine medical knowledge and clinical skills in the clinical judgement process. This process, the creation of a problem representation referring to what the physician thinks occurring with the patient based on the synthesis and integration of two key elements. The first element includes the information collected from the patient through an accurate and the complete medical history. The second element includes a focused physical examination, and the physician’s working medical knowledge.…
"For everywhere we look, there is work to be done. The state of our economy calls for action: bold and swift. And we will act not only to create new jobs but to lay a new foundation for growth. We will build the roads and bridges, the electric grids and digital lines that feed our commerce and bind us together. We will restore science to its rightful place and wield technology's wonders to raise health care's quality and lower its costs” (President Barrack Obama, Inaugural Address, 2009).…
Supercrunchers, by Ian Ayres, is a book that explains “why thinking-by-number is the new way to be smart.” Throughout Supercrunchers, Ayers provides numerous real world examples of how both statistics and intuition can connect, communicate together and in fact help us in the long run by becoming a part of our everyday thinking processes. The enhancement that data-based decision making can afford us will allow businesses to become better decision makers whether it’s through analyzing data for marketing strategies or deciding how to treat a patient. Ayers spends a significant amount of time discussing regression and data mining and how it can be used to anticipate the future. Regressions are used by some familiar matchmaking companies such…
The books Your Medical Mind by Drs. Jerome Groopman and Pamela Hartzband and Happiness in a Storm by Dr. Wendy Harpham discuss two different approaches to medical decision making. Medical decisions are not only decisions patients make in life or death situations but also the mundane decisions patients make routinely, such as whether to ingest an allergy pill. In our technologically dependent age, patients face many challenges when attempting to make the best possible medical decision for them. For example, the media, internet, disagreeing experts, and even personal anecdotes we hear influence our decisions by instigating or hindering us from picking a certain plan of treatment.…
Hello, Kallie~ I enjoyed your discussion posting this week. According to Why Evidence-Based Practice Is Important in Nursing (2017), EBP is the best present evidence to make decisions about the care of patients (Why Evidence-Based Practice Is Important in Nursing, 2017). Usually, nurses are established on patient care with a diversity of aspects including trial and mistake, authoritative education, personal experience, awareness and perception. Clinical experience is a significant tactic to the dilemma of evidence based practice in nursing and does not basically monitor established guidelines and recommendations.…
I just recently went to a training with OT, PT, SLP, and nurses and they were sharing the importance of EBP. I was reminded that not just in nursing profession that EBP is utilized and recognized as best practice within many health care professions. From that and this course, my future learning goals for EBP will be actively and consciously utilize the EBP process and incorporate into daily practice as a practitioner. Also, it is critical to remember the shared decision-making process as well as five steps for EBP (1. Ask, 2.…
Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter Dressing Changes The focus of this paper is to provide the importance of evidenced based practice (EBP) in the nursing field and to compare the policy of Kaiser Permanente San Jose Medical Center’s topic of peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) dressing changes to multiple evidenced based practices. Within the past decades, changing a PICC line dressing has changed over time. Different antiseptic agents and techniques of cleaning the site are completely different.…
It contributes to greater nurse efficiency and professionalism which helps results in better health outcomes for the patients. EBP is a crucial element of quality care since individual nurses are able to position themselves to provide optimal care to the patients by using the competencies acquired from the practice (Polit & Beck, 2010). Patients will often have an improved outcome where EBP has been used because it promotes the collection, interpretation and integration of reports from the clients, observations of the practitioner and the research obtained from evidence to give maximum results. As a result, the preferences of the patients themselves, their families and those of the community as a whole are served (Polit & Beck,…
This assignment will be investigating patient choice in relation to personalisation, the rational for this chosen topic is because Evidence Based Practice (EBP) is largely weighed in patient preferences, which will be explored throughout this essay. Sackett et al. (1996) describes EBP as ‘the conscientious, explicit and judicious use of current best evidence in making decisions about the care of individual patients.’ The main driver behind EBP in health and social care is ‘the delivery of the best possible care, for professional accountability and to avoid negligence claims.’ (Aveyard, 2013)…
DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEM INTRODUCTION The interactive, flexible and adaptable tool used by the managers without any guidance from the computer experts is known as the Decision Support System (DSS). The DSS allows the managers to make intelligent decisions with all the required information. DSS is a well-established research and development section. The birth of DSS is the preceding work in two main research streams undertaken by Simon et al.…
Introduction Issued related to health always are the hot topics in society. People have been working hard in investigation, research and invention for improving the quality of health care. Nowadays, more and more clinical practices and care are supported by evidence to increase the effectiveness of health care Evidence has taken a more important place in nursing development. EBP has been used in different professional aspects such as medication, psychology as well as nursing. EBP has been more valued nowadays.…
