Clinical Day Reflection

My first clinical day was very interesting. I enjoyed it overall but I was definitely apprehensive when we first entered the unit. Prior to my first clinical day, I had no idea of what I was going to encounter. I was somewhat nervous but I also felt intrigued because I have heard of the different environment mental health facilities have. I didn't necessarily have any expectations but it was very easy to overthink their patients and any potential altercations. I think this is because of the things that we are taught to avoid escalations. Although this doesn't necessarily mean the patients will harm us, it was hard to put that in the back of our minds and not think the worst. I got to see various patients with differing mental health disorders and was very interested in their manifestations as well. It was very interesting to actually see these patients exhibit their symptoms, even when they were just speaking in therapy. I enjoyed seeing the collaboration between the different healthcare providers as well. …show more content…
I believe that this was an aspect of their therapeutic milieu. In addition to the lack of dress code, the patients are all encouraged to eat breakfast together and meet in group therapy an hour after breakfast to facilitate socialization. I enjoyed this because I feel that this is another aspect of the therapeutic milieu. Each patient has the opportunity to participate in these interactions led by social workers. Kaiser's mental health facility also provides a safe holding environment due to the configuration of the nurse’s station in relation to the patient’s rooms and socialization rooms. Overall, it was a very good first clinical experience related to mental health because I had great nurses and a great

I must say that the first and second day at the school was very hectic. Several children were having a difficult time adjusting to the classroom environment and some of them had to be removed. Most of the children required one-on-one counseling before returning to their classroom. I can definitely see the need for this service within the school system. Although there is a social worker and a school counselor, the children still require more one-on-one interaction.…

Throughout my clinical rotations, I have dedicated myself to giving best shot at all the specialities, and at the same time trying to figure out a speciality that would align flawlessly with my personal and future goals. While this task seemed straightforward and uncomplicated, it was challenging to find a specialty that combined cerebral requirements of internal medicine and procedural skills of surgery, until my Anesthesiology rotation. Major factors that drew me to the specialty were the challenge of managing critically ill patients, the clinical application of pharmacology and physiology and the hands on nature of the speciality. During my third year, I had glimpse of the profession while doing my core rotations. My first month into clinical rotations, I was on-call for my internal medicine rotation.…

The semester 3 clients care clinic started off as very nerve-racking experiences for me but slowly turned into more exciting and comfortable. Through these semesters there was a lot of important information that we have all earned and it is important to bring it all together to be successful in clinics. We have also learned about dental hygiene process of care model and that is a significant aspect in client care clinics. As we started clinic in week 2 I found that my time management skills were not as good. I found myself wasting time and not using it efficiently but as more clinics happened, I got better and was able to do things in advanced, which really helped.…

Teamwork and collaboration, good communication, and confidence are the three strengths I believe I demonstrated during this rotation. My clinical rotation as a student nurse did not only imply observing the providers, but also meant active participation on my part. Being engaged, enabled me to put into practice what I have learned in theory. The first day of my rotation, the nurse permitted me to augment the Pitocin dose by two units after 20 minutes. I thought that was exciting because I learned about the medication in the class and participated in administering it.…

In the past two week, I was on the surgery ward having an 8 days clinical dietitian placement in the Frankston hospital, learning how to communicate with various groups of patients. For the early stages of my placement, I mainly learned to read the medical record and observed my supervisor to do the nutrient assessment and gave my feedback or comments to my supervisor. The critical incident occurred in the second week of my placement, which I went to do a short interview with the patient on my own. This was my first time and I needed to do the full assessment and the dietary history in this interview.…

My first clinical experience was at St. Vincent hospital on a geriatric unit, when I was a second year nursing student. When a nurse on the unit asked for help with a bed bath for a patient with whom I was not familiar, I agreed. I wanted to get as much experience as I could. The nurse led me to the patient 's room right away.…
