For many years and more to come, climbing Mount Everest has been such a great achievement for many climbers. Though, they may not always make it to the top, they are just happy that they got to witness the wonderful views and icy scenery. But, do they really? Are the views of the mountain breathtaking or garbage filled? To some climbers the scenery doesn’t matter, it just getting to the top that counts, but what about the mountain itself? As snow should always be white, it may not always be if more and more trash and waste continuously gets piled on the mountain there may not even be a mountain or we may be left with a small hill at that. For instance, the text states, “By mid-2013 a total of nearly 4,000 people had reached the mountain’s summit. With that number of people comes an even greater amount of food containers, tents, empty oxygen canisters, and even human waste. Most of these materials get left behind on the mountain” (Source #2: A Mountain of Garbage 2). This statement proves that nearly a thousand people are leaving behind waste and trash. This also shows that they're all doing it as they climb the mountain which means that this trash and waste is not piling in only one spot, it’s happening everywhere. In addition, the text also says that, “Due to the extreme weather conditions on Everest, the debris stays frozen in place. Some food cans found on Everest even date from as far back as the early 1960s” ( Source #2: A Mountain of Garbage 2). These sentences show that as a result of so many people leaving behind waste it has began to freeze the climate making the debris stay in place and not fly or move away. It is another example of why we need to take action fast before the whole mountain becomes a frozen landfill.
