The Climax and Resolution in the Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne are two of most the important parts of this story besides the plot of it, the climax makes this story rise in not only the suspense but the drama as well. The resolution is an important part because of how the issue or conflict has come to an end by either an understanding that was made one or more characters or by a death of one or more characters. Many conflicts in stories that lead into the climax, come from multiple character or maybe even one character selfishness or revengeful act like Chillingworth in the Scarlet Letter.
If there was one character who shows signs of wanting redemption who would it be? Roger Chillingworth is the character that most represents redemption, he shows it from the way he acts in the Scarlet letter when his wife Hester had an affair with another man (Dimmesdale) had wanted to find the man who had an affair and ruin him from the ground up, once he found out who the man was his soul would not rest until the man was tortured to death.

I can passionately and adamantly tell you that Nathaniel Hawthorne has a God given talent of prolonging a story that could be told in five chapters or less. In reading The Scarlet Letter I have developed grey hair, a dislike for words such as ignominy and sagacious and intense abdominal pain. On the other hand, The Scarlet Letter didn’t totally set me off of literature written before the 1900’s; I’ll give it another try in 40 years or so. Yet, on a serious note Nathaniel Hawthorne was able to create a beautiful yet tragic story. When creating this famous piece of literature his attention to detail, use of foreshadowing, as well as symbolism brought the conflicts, theme and characters to life.…

These characters are used to help create conflict and supply a satisfying resolution. However, in the Scarlet Letter, Hester, the protagonist, experiences struggle and conflict from multiple sources. Most apparent, Chillingworth, a revenge seeking lunatic who is hell bent on revenge. Contrastingly, Arthur Dimmesdale could be considered to treat Hester an even worse than Chillingworth.…
