1. The topic I have decided to focus on for this essay question is climate change. Climate change is a very significant, ever-changing issue in science and politics. An article by Steve Zwick of the Huffington Post titled, “Which US States Are Already Honoring the Paris Climate Agreement?” discusses The Paris Agreement and what it means for the future of our planet. During The Paris Climate Conference in December 2015, 195 countries, including the United States, adopted the first-ever universal legally binding global climate deal called “The Paris Agreement”. The main goal of this agreement is to bring the world together to avoid dangerous climate change by limiting global warming to below 2 degrees Celsius. Some of the other key elements in this agreement are to support actions to rapidly reduce emissions, have governments meet every 5 years to set global emission targets and have them report how well they are doing to implement their targets, have governments strengthen societies and their ability to deal with the impacts of climate change as well as provide international support to developing countries in regards to climate change, have governments minimize and address all loss and damage associated with the adverse effects of climate change, and have the EU and other developed countries continue to support climate action to reduce emissions and build resilience to climate change impacts in developing countries.
