In Leonardo Dicaprio’s speech he said, “A world that we collectively felt in 2015 as the hottest year in recorded history. Our production needed to move to the southern tip of this planet just to be able to find snow. Climate change is real, it is happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species, and we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating.” Climate change may not be the biggest issue in the world, but it is a problem and is most definitely real and is affecting people and animals and if nothing is done now we will have an even bigger problem in the future. According to nationalgeographic.com we can expect the ocean levels to rise 2.5 feet to 6.5 feet by 2001 and flood many cities along the coast destroying peoples and animals homes. They also have said Greenland ice sheets will completely melt and the sea level will rise to 23 feet submerging London. This may not seem like a lot and that it is too far in the future to worry about, but it is something to worry about now. If we don’t do anything now there will be nothing to do in the future because this is a process over time. What we can do is use less energy. Energy itself may not emit gases bad for the environment, although the power plant the energy is from might. You can turn off lights not in use or use a fan instead of an air conditioner when it’s hot. Cars burn fossil fuel and emit carbon dioxide so, walking, riding a bike, taking the bus or carpooling to work or school would be a better option than driving to your destination. Recycling is also a good thing and something we should all be doing in the first place. Burning garbage in garbage dumps emits carbon dioxide and goods that are recycled take up less energy to make than goods that aren’t. Planting trees and other plants is also a good idea.
