Scientists have noticed that if an organism is more prone to evolving than they will survive longer, if not then the organism will eventually become extinct. There are evolutionary winners and losers, in other words. There are projections that show the approximate distribution of species for future climate scenarios in an attempt to possibly help the future generations.
Climate change has many affects on the diversity of living organisms and the population. For example, the polar ice caps melting has a major affect polar bears. Global warming has been a major factor contributing to the decrease in polar bear population because the ice caps melt causing ice platform loss. This has affected seals, a main source of food for polar bears, so decrease in seals is a decrease in polar bears, (Stirling, I., Lunn, N. J., & Iacozza, J., 1999). Stirling (1999) also argued that with warming temperatures polar bears are finding it hard to survive with all the extra fat they have saved for cold winters, now its just unnecessary for them to carry an extra large weight. Thus causing energy loss faster, making polar bears need more food that is already hard to find. Polar bears …show more content…
The warming of temperature has caused the organisms to evolve to new habitat climates or disperse and live where the weather is more to their liking, which brings us to distribution. Without the ability to evolve very quickly the species are choosing to take chances in a new environment with new food sources and potentially a new climate, this is still adapting to new lives. Although distribution is easier to polar bears, a fish may not be so eager to find a new home that will suit there needs, the preference all depends on what the organisms has to with stand in their new
