Imagine a world devoid of color and life. Imagine a world, where the smog and air pollution consumes purity, where one is forced to wear a pollution mask. Imagine a world with heat so intense and immense that it dries up rainforests and melts the glaciers and polar icecaps, rising sea levels. Now imagine extreme flooding, the kind that washes away landscapes and demolishes homes alike. Those who live by or along the coast, no longer have a place to call home. Although a scenario similar to what was just described may be dramatized to show the outcome; climate change, a controversial topic, is undoubtedly happening. Because of its controversial nature, many people have common misconceptions about climate change because they are uneducated about the topic. While some may believe climate change does not exist, there is strong evidence to suggest climate change is real and rapidly progressing.

Myth 1. CO2 emissions are not responsible for global warming and have not increased enough to raise concern. A statement such as this one is inaccurate. To prove, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Annual Greenhouse Gas Index has found that there has been an “increase [of] 27.5 percent between 1990 and 2009. Increases in carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere are responsible for 80% of the increase [of temperatures]” (Climate Change Science 3).
