Climate change refers to a shift in weather patterns that is observed in the long run. These shifts have negatives considering that people are not conversant with the current weather patterns. New weather trends have negative impacts on the people since they are characterized by extreme conditions. Some parts of the world have been experiencing drought that has crippled the agricultural sector. In other areas, storms and floods have been experienced leading to loss of lives and property. Climate change has raised serious concerns making key stakeholders dedicate time and resources in conducting climate change research. Climate change is caused by natural and human factors. The natural factors have been relevant to climate change since the ancient times. However, in recent past human activities have, to a great extent impacted the climate change. Climate change caused by natural force emanates from the variability of the earth’s interactions. The interactions between the land, atmosphere and ocean vary over time, thus causing a climate change (NOAA). Evidence shows that human activities have largely contributed to climate change. Global warming is one of the main dimensions of climate change that is raising major concerns in today’s world. It is caused by the buildup of greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere. Greenhouse gasses are heavy gasses that trap solar energy in the atmosphere, causing overheating of the earth. The presence of the two gasses in the atmosphere is attributed to natural and human causes. Water vapor in the atmosphere is temporary and it, therefore, does not raise major concerns in the climate change. Carbon dioxide is the main cause of climate change. The development is characterized by the economy in the utilization of natural resources and energy. It also emphasizes on the reduction of ecological footprint emanating from production activities. One of the major contributors of carbon dioxide buildup in the atmosphere is the utilization of fossil fuels. Fossil fuels are among the scarce natural resources that need conservation (UNFCCC). Sustainability in organizations requires emphasis to be put on reducing energy consumption that directly or indirectly contributes to the reduction of the utilization of fossil fuels. Most countries have a diverse energy portfolio where the fossil fuel plays a crucial role in providing energy for domestic and industrial use. Reducing energy consumption at the organizational level minimizes the reliance on fossil fuel that in turn reduces the production of greenhouse gasses.
