The United States Presidential Elections are approaching and it is important to consider each candidates ' position on global issues. The future president of the United States will hold an important role in the international system as chief executive, and the constituents must demand that their future leader is capable of addressing the challenges that the global community faces. The president will be facing many challenges as he enters office including the refugee crisis, cyber security, and terrorism. Many candidates have addressed these issues and they are to be taken seriously when deciding who the next President will be but in my opinion the most important issue threatening global security is climate change. According to the Environmental Defense Fund website, some examples of issues resulting from climate change include: The earth’s water system is thrown off balance which causes glaciers and ice sheets to melt, a rise in sea levels, extreme weather changes, and more acidic oceans. The shift of water and climate patterns destroy habitats. Coral and shellfish suffer over heat stress and acidic oceans, forest trees are prone to infectious insects do to hotter climate, and artic mammals suffer do to the melting of ice sheets and hotter weather. Climate change also threatens people. The worlds food security is at risk do to the effect climate change has on agriculture caused by droughts, extreme weather and heat. Pollution and warm air affects human health because it triggers asthma attacks and facilitates water contamination (edf.org). Climate change directly impacts the world’s environment, economy, and human health. It is the most important international challenge the future president will face because it is an issue that demands for immediate participation from the world in order to find an effective solution. The future of the United States and every other country is being threatened by climate change and if governments neglect to take action this issue has potential to cause permanent complications for the
