Client Description
My client, that has agreed to being interviewed, name is Nicole Wilson. Nicole is 31 years of age and is African American female. She has 2 children two little girls and have been in a relationship with her current boyfriend who is not her children father for 4 years. Nicole is currently attending the University of Phoenix studying for her Bachelor’s in entrepreneurship, because she wants to own her own business in the clothing industry, she currently works at Macy’s.
1). Stage 1: Empathetic Relationship
Nicole seems to be having some issues that she would like to discuss with me. In stage 1 I would be giving her the self-disclosure, so that she would have an understanding of that anything that she discussed with me is confidential during the interviewing process. The skills that would be used in this stage would be, attending behavior as well as encouragers. I will be observing her non-verbal body language as well. Even though I don’t have children I can relate to going to school full time and maintain employment. Also in this stage I will be using the reflecting listening skills to help me paraphrase what my client has talked about, so that the client could have that feeling that she is being heard and I am empathetic.

I would be using closed questions that would allow me to get the specifics about her thoughts on the issues she is having. I will then be using some encouragers that will get my client to express more on her issues. I will also be using my reflective listening skills, which will allow me to identify any emotions that is coming from my client. At the end of the interview I will then summarize all of the client’s issues that is concerning her. The goal in this stage is to gather all of the information from my client and get her to see her
