Client-centered practice is the use of a client’s values, goals and experiences to drive their therapeutic interventions through a collaboration between the client and the occupational therapist. (Sumsion & Law, 2006; Taylor, 2008, p. 10). Enablement is the goal of client-centered practice and is achieved through increasing a clients’ self-efficacy with the use of occupations that hold personal significance (Taylor, 2008, p. 10). Sumsion & Law (2006) identified 5 components that are at the core of client centered practice which include hope, choice, listening/communication, partnership and power.
