Client is a 49 year old, Caucasian female who has agreed to individual counseling after a referral from her case manager at Twin Oaks Homeless Shelter. Client was born and raised in Delevan, WI. Client reported she has a relationship with her parents, two brothers, and sister who all live in Delevan. Client is struggling to maintain her sobriety which she has been sober for about month since she moved into the shelter in the middle of March. Client reported she lost her job do to her being alcoholic. Client reported she will drink in the morning before her shift at the country club in Delevan which she will take a couple of shots of vodka. Client is independent and struggle at times to maintain her sobriety. Client’s independence sometimes interfere when it is time for to ask for help. Client sometimes lack motivation to better her situation when she is down she rather stay in bed. Client’s self-esteem is very low which leads her to be judgmental of herself. Client takes ownership of her situation and admitted she is alcoholic.
There are a lot of multi-cultural considerations with this client. First, she is a Caucasian middle age woman who beliefs are different from my own. Second, the client is struggling to maintain her sobriety since I never experience being an alcoholic I do not understand her difficulties she has trying to maintain her sobriety. Lastly, I was surprised the client will not reach out to her family at this time and rather get herself out of her current situation alone. Client realized she is in her current situation due to her alcohol usage and has come to terms she is alcoholic but is willing to take the steps to help overcome her addiction of alcohol. Client is overwhelmed due to being homeless and not having a job but has been looking for apartments and applying for jobs to ease her frustration. Client is independent and feels she can get out her situation without any help from her family. Client’s low self-esteem sometimes interferes with her finding employment because she feels her appearance will lead employers to reject her because she is not young and pretty.
