Client is a young African American female estimated to be in her early 30s. She is also a single mother of three young children aged approximately one, two and three all very close in age. No concrete information in regards to client exact nationality, ethnicity, religion, culture, age, and self- identification were asked by the social worker. Demographic information was based of the presenting situation and is a possible not definite description of the client.

Client has reported that she has been exposed to alcohol since an early age and has a family history of alcoholism, which led to the problem with substance abuse. Client is a stage of crisis, which is defined as “ a perception of an event or situation as an intolerable difficulty that exceeds the resources or coping mechanism of the person”(Hepworth et al., 2010, p.380). She is at the state of crisis because her current situation consists of domestic violence, alcoholism, and child neglect due to which children were taken away from her. Client also expressed having an abusive relationship, which her children witnessed as well. Client articulated a feeling of remorse and guilt due to the fact of children being present during the domestic abuse from her significant other.

However, it was important for the social worker to mention that there could be some reimbursement in order for her to be able to travel to therapy. Also, the client is not 100% compliant and willing to participate in one of the interventions that is being offered by the social worker. The intervention that was offered was taking parenting classes and gain knowledge of what it is being a parent and learning new techniques. However, the client’s response was not so willing due to her not wanting other people teaching her of how to be a parent or how to raise her children. Even though she does mentions that she doesn’t like this idea of intervention for her she will accept in order to get her children back.
