Cleopatr An Effective Leader

In August of 30 B.C., Cleopatra entered a mausoleum in Alexandria and committed suicide. She had spent the last two decades as the last independent Pharaoh of Egypt. Cleopatra battled her siblings ruthlessly for power, engaged the Roman emperor in military action, and had more than one passionate and well-known affairs. She is one of the most loved figures in ancient history, constantly defying gender roles and female stereotypes, and her life was steeped in adventure and mystery. Best of all, Cleopatra was a brilliant leader because she was strong and determined, made intelligent alliances, and created effective government policies. She did not only want Egypt to be safe and keep her throne, she wanted Egypt to be as great as it was in the past and she was determined to do so. Cleopatra's independence and ambition made her an amazing leader because she didn't let people discriminate against her for being a woman, she took the responsibilities that needed to be taken to be a great queen and these actions made her become one of the most admirable rulers till this day. One of her greatest accomplishments was a marked improvement in the role of women in the society in those times. Cleopatra’s personal life inspired many to treat marriage as nothing more than a partnership, with each of the two partners having his/her individual responsibilities to fulfill. Her accomplishment as a successful woman leader in the Hellenistic era led her to become a role model for all women. Cleopatra realized that she needed Roman support to reach her goal, or, more specifically, Caesar’s support, if she was to regain her throne and pay off her debt. Each was determined to use the other. Both of Cleopatra’s relationships with Julius Caesar and Marc Antony we're for love and to also help Egypt. Caesar sought money for repayment of the debts incurred by Cleopatra’s father, Auletes, as he struggled to retain his throne. Marc Antony, her next lover after Caesar needed Cleopatra’s financial support for his postponed Parthian campaign; in return, Cleopatra requested the return of much of Egypt’s eastern empire, including large portions of Syria and Lebanon and even the rich balsam groves of Jericho.
