These statues, approximately created between 580 B.C and 610 B.C were found and excavated at Delphie, specifically the statues and part of one base in 1893 and 1894 as well as the other base later found on the wall of a Roman bath in 1907. The statues are now located in the Delphi Archaeological Museum with a further analysis of the statues of their material, purpose, genre and characteristics of the statues.
Cleobis and Biton are found to be carved from Parian marble and represent the High Archaic genre of statues. The monuments, signed by Polyymedes of Argos are clearly original, freestanding statues, also known as kouros, and was most likely commissioned due to the excellence that is told of Cleobis and Biton.
