Cleo Redfield: A Short Story

There once was a girl, a girl with bright blood red hair. She was beautiful, stunning, and her name was Cleo. Cleo Redfield was her given name. On the outside she seemed like a happy normal girl, but inside, she had many dark feelings. Because of her beauty she was tormented everyday by other girls and all the guys. They were attracted to her like moths to a light and she didn't like all the attention. At home, it wasn't any better. She was the oldest and had to look after her three year old brother. Their mother was an alcoholic. She started to drink when Cleo was eight years old and her father decided to leave. Upon finding out that her mother was pregnant, now at the age of eleven she has to be a sister, a mother, a caretaker, and a friend …show more content…
All the guys followed her. All the girls made grotesque remarks at her. Except for her classes, she was the saddest girl in school.. After school had finished she started her lonely walk back to her living nightmare. She felt compelled to just turn around and run, but her little brother was still there. She needed to protect him and keep him safe from their mother. Instead of running away she had to endure the pain and insult from her supposed to be loving mother. She just continued walking. Once she had stepped onto the final step of her porch, she stood still with eyes closed wishing her mother was drunk and passed out or not at home at all: Now with open eyes, she opened the door and walked in with her head down. Then the sound of loud snoring broke the silence. knowing it's her mother’s she tries to get upstair hastily but quietly to check if her brother was alright. As she opened the door to her brother's bedroom to find him sleeping under his bed with his tuxedo cat beanie baby she got on her knees to retrieve her brother she picked him up and place him on his bed and covered him with his blanket and walked out towards her own room where was the only place she felt …show more content…
That when everything just crumbles all the thoughts of where she and her brother will be going now that their mother is gone will they live with their father or live in a foster home and will they stay together and if so will they be separated, but as soon as those thoughts came flooding in her head they disappeared as Cleo dropped to her knees bailing that's when she felt hand on her back rubbing in circles she stopped crying to look up to see a woman kneeling down.

“It'll be alright we have already located your biological father but you have a choice you can go with you father or you can go and live with a foster family, it's you choice,” offered the child protective services woman.

“What about my brother will I still be with him either way?” Cried out Cleo.

“You mean you're not the only one here, but anyways yeah if he's you brother you two will be kept together in but sinceros it's a new law that no matter what siblings won't be split apart, so you two won't be separated, now where do you want to live?” The very nice social worker asked. Cleo thought long and hard on her decision considering the fact that she hadn't seen each other in three years and that he left because of her brother then again if she goes to a foster family it could be even
