In this essay I will focus on the incentives that stimulate me to pursue further studies in economics. I will also reflect on the motives for my choice in applying to Clemson University.
Although not always effortless or rigidly defined, I believe my past experiences in education and research interests have prepared me to be an outstanding candidate for Clemson’s economic PhD program. As a young child, I was diagnosed with both dyslexia and ADHD. These conditions never made learning easy; however, they equipped me with a sedulous work effort, an exceptionally creative mind, and the ability to adapt as a learner. These attributes I believe, will guide me in graduate studies as a thorough researcher and diligent scholar.

Through experience as a tutor I have become motivated in finding new and innovative methods that keep students engaged, as well as making material relevant to students with diverse backgrounds and learning behaviors. With a degree from Clemson it is comforting to know wherever I may end up, be it teaching or research, I will have the ability to participate in meaningful work. I am certain if given the opportunity to study at Clemson—which houses some of the most prominent scholars in economics and attracts exceptionally dedicated students—it will help me reach my full potential as a student of

According to Yeager, Nelson, Potter, Weidman & Zullo (2001) in many ways higher education should be seen as a business as it “produces and sells educational services to customer” (as cited by Winston, 1999, p.13). However, at the same time, while education is indeed a business in some retrospect, it should not be regarded as only a business either. Over the last several decades, many economists have attempted to solve the array of issues surrounding the idea that education should be seen as a way to strengthen society and its ability to maintain a stabilized economy that is ever growing. However, throughout history, an idea that originated by Adam Smith, the founding father of economics, is that education should be used counter the negative side-effects of economic development (Gilead, 2015, p. 625).…

A college degree is a luxury that a few fortune people can obtain, and even fewer can capitalize on a soft job market. This is the generalization that has confronted many considering a college degree program and older adults weighing the reasonableness of returning to college. Columnist David Leonharht, wrote the article, "It college Worth It?", published in 2014 in the The New York Times, and addresses this assumption of college relevance in which he argues that while a college degree does not offer a guarantee of social success, it is the best decision one can make to maximize ones financial potential and achieve middle class status and beyond. Leonhardt begins his credibility with his own professional background, and further progresses…
