Cleft Palate Reflection

Improved Essays
I have felt that kids have been staring at me before just like when august gets stared at all of the time except I don't feel that all the time. I remember the first time I read Wonder I was in 4th grade and Mrs.F read it to us and I loved it and still love it! I have never seen someone with a cleft palate, but I wouldn’t stare if I did see anyone.

When I was little I didn’t realize that people would bully other people how bad they really did. How August got bullied was just plain mean, they would stomp on his hearing aids, bully him because of his cleft palate I think all that he wanted was to be able to be normal without bully’s, yet I’ve never had a bully but it sounds just bad and I never want one I don’t know why people bully even if

This book to me feels like it is supposed to be a message for others to not bully I’m glad that our teacher took the time to just read this book to us in 4th grade I wonder if the teacher hadn’t read it to us if there would be bullies at our school now which I don’t think that there is but maybe there is bullies here but just hiding and also there is bystanders. When auggie was little I guarantee that many of his family stared at him, and my family doesn’t stare at us because we don’t have any deformed kids in my family, but we wouldn’t stare even if we did because we were raised to be polite and that way it wouldn’t be really awkward.

My biggest connection with this book is having a loving family, but I have 1 deformation which is flat feet but have a bone cyst that has been recovering for 2 years so it’s not dangerous anymore. When the teacher brought out Wonder It looked interesting from the cover even though you aren't supposed to judge a book by its cover my eyes just clinged to the partial face on the cover which has one eye and nothing else.

I had thought that the meaning of the story is to not make fun of anyone that is deformed or just different looking, or broken bones everyone on earth is the same and not one person on earth is better than another so treat people how you want to be treated but it is unclear without going to the writer and asking them

Sometimes people don't like things they do not understand, but to bully them mentally and physically will trigger so many things in a person. In the book The five stages of Andrew Brawley we have a kid named rusty who was bullied constantly for looking and acting gay as when he was younger but as he got into he was out about actually being gay but that didn't change anything since he was already getting the worst getting beaten and being called names in his life. This may be a fictional book but these even do really happen to anyone that is different, Even if you are part of the LGBT community or just different many ignorant people think it’s appropriate to mess with them and physically and verbally say bad things involving that they don't…

Children can’t understand the reason as to why they are bullying another child like the countless studies can; so what would they say? When asked the simple question, “Why do you bully?” kids came back with responses that go hand in hand with Sherri Gordon’s previously mentioned reasons yet these children had never been a part of a study. Their answers included: because it makes them feel smarter, stronger, or better than the person they’re bullying, they are bullied at home, they want to hang out with the ‘in’ crowd, other people are doing it, they are jealous of the other person, or they are trying to prevent themselves from getting bullied. These words were not from a doctor’s mouth or someone who had done years’ worth of studying to find the cause, it was from the bully’s mouth themselves (“Stomp”).…

The book that I chose to read was The Curious Incident of the Dog At Night-time it is about a teenager named Christopher Boone and his life. The book is written from his perspective and talks mostly about his life with mild autism and his family relationships. Christopher’s autism makes what most people may think of as a simple task, very difficult. For example when Christopher had to ride the subway he was very scared, so much so that could barely function, this was triggered by of the amount of people around him. For me these struggles are not something I was familiar with before reading this book.…

Dear R.J. Palacio, Your book Wonder was more than just a book to me. I was born three months early with low blood platelets and multiple deforms on my body. Within the song, the musician sings through a soft tone that truly captures the heart and makes you stop and think about all the characteristics that make us unique such as braces, glasses, height, weight, eye sight, hearing, and intelligence. Not only are the differences noted, but the feelings that the children experience when they are laughed at such as crying themselves to sleep, make this song unique and heartwarming. The viewing of this video can build background knowledge by emphasizing our differences and the affect one can have on another, by laughing and not accepting those for who they are. This video will leave students thinking about their sense of character when it comes to judging others, especially based on appearances.…

According to C. Wright Mills, sociological imagination is when people are affected by the history of society and how people affect history itself. It also allowed people to understand history and it’s meaning in life. In “The Promise,” Mills talks about how men feel like they are in a series of traps. He basically says that men are not only trouble with personal problems but public issues as well. The difference between personal problems and public issues is that personal problems only deals with someone’s private life and public issues is when everyone in your society is affected about it.…

My fathers had would tell a struggling tale of a boy who had to work all his life and grew strong from his immense yet daunting journey.…

I: During this semester, I worked with some individuals who had the disability, “cerebral palsy”. Cerebral palsy (CP) is a disorder caused by physical, social, or historical factors from the mother either prior, during, or after the individual is born. The disability causes the individual to have limited mobility on his or her left or right side of the body. Polzin, Odle, Davidson, and Longe (2007) express some important finding about cerebral palsy such as; CP is not a specific disorder but describes a broad group of neurological and physical problems… [Relating to] the cerebral cortex, a part of the brain that controls voluntary muscle movement (par. 2). For this reason the body don’t function as “normal” individuals and this demographic…
