Energy is a powerful resource that is used everywhere like in electrical energy that is cultivated daily. Many places in our current generation are running out of energy and are in a deficit of energy just like Chile. There have been players in the field that have attempted to find a solution for the energy problem. Some of them include HidroAysén and International Rivers Network, which through much debate have proven that more Hydropower would cause extreme environmental problems, that should be prevented. To counteract the production and still create energy is that an alternative solar power source should be created in the Patagonian region. New leading players in this field would …show more content…
Chiles deficit of energy comes from it being an industrial producer of cooper and still having to provide energy to its cities while not having enough income of energy. In Chile there is a Patagonian Region that contains a vast desert where the solar power can be created. It has a decent distance from the cities so it does not disrupt the aesthetics yet close enough to still pass on the energy. As stated by Felipe del Sola and Enzo Sauma whom are from the Industrial and Systems Engineering Department, that there is “an annual Direct Normal Irradiation (DNI) of 9-10 kWh/m2/day,” in Chile (del Sol and Sauma 489-498). This indication provides the data needed to show that the solar power is a good investment for energy. Another good point was expressed Matias Hanel and Escobar Rodrigo from the Department of Mechanical and Metallurgical Engineering, when they stated that “concentrated solar power (CSP) plants an interesting option for the country, especially when considering the high levels of solar radiation and clearness index that are available in northern Chile,” (Hanel and Escober 96-100). This quote shows that the creation of solar power would be possible in Chile and will get results. Lastly we have Christián Cortés from the Fraunhofer Chile Research, Center for Solar Energy Technologies and other …show more content…
Not everybody is able to participate the same way and so there are multiple opportunities given to the college students in order to make a difference. The first would be through petitions that focus on raising awareness to the public so that people are informed and can start a change that will motivate the government of Chile to listen to the public and allow the production of solar power. As stated by Sophie Von Hatzfeldt, from the Journal of International Affairs, “Chile has a dire need as well as a vast potential to expand renewable energy production and the government has recently introduced regulatory reforms and incentives to facilitate their development,” (von Hatzfeldt 199-209). This statement is powerful because it represents the fact that Chile needs this energy and the government is in favor of attempting change, for like they now charge the incentives per carbon emission, and the fact that the peoples voice can create change. Another type of way that college students can act now is protesting and creating different events where people come together to inform others, this can be as simple as forming the event in their college. College students can be found in almost the entire world because there are universities in most locations, this cause a
