Three Major Themes In 13 Reasons Why By Hannah Baker

The character I could most relate to is Clay Jensen. I can relate to him because he tends to over think almost every situation he is in. As he is listening to Hannah Baker’s tapes, he keeps talking over her and making his own comments on his perspective. “But you knew, Hannah. You knew, but you still went. Why” (Asher 100). In a situation, I always end up overthinking the possibilities of what could happen which is exactly what clay does.
The character's problems are very relatable. Hannah Baker’s stories can somehow relate to any average high school student. One of her stories is about her first kiss/love, and almost every high schooler has a clear memory of their first love or kiss. All of the relationships were believable. For example,

Choice is the biggest theme of this book because everything someone did was a choice. The author wants people to start thinking about how they are treating other people and make the right choices throughout life. This book was filled with choices through every character mentioned in the stories. “But halfway home, he stopped, thought about it, and headed to Rosie's just in case,” (Asher 140). Marcus had a choice to just go home or actual check if Hannah was waiting for him, and if he just went home he could have avoided so much unnecessary drama or maybe not even be on the tapes. At the same time, Hannah also could’ve avoided all of this by either not going to Rosie’s or leaving after ten minutes because marcus was more than thirty minute late anyways. The choices the people made a big impact in someone’s life, but they didn’t even realize it till it was too …show more content…
This book was mainly sad because almost all the words are coming from a dead girl, and the only reason why somebody would be listening to the tapes would be if they did something to her which made do what she did. There are some stories that give a different kind of vibe, but at the end of all the tapes she somehow finds a way to blame them and the vibe quickly changes. “At the end of class, Mrs. Bradley passed out a flyer called The Warning Signs of a Suicidal Individual. Guess what was right up there in the top five?” (Asher 173). She makes it seem like a joke that she killed herself; however it is a very serious topic, yet many people don’t take this topic as serious as it should be taken.
This book was very enjoyable to read and I would definitely recommend it to someone else. I never wanted to put the book down because it just keeps going on and on, and each story is about someone else and as u read on you just want to know who the tape is about and what they did to Hannah Baker. A character from 13 Reasons Why can definitely somehow relate to any person. Some people may say this is a book with the plot of a basic high school story, but this one is very different and has more real life problems that some people may be able to relate

Christine is the true story of Christine Chubbuck, a 29 year old television reporter working for a local TV station in Sarasota, Florida. After watching the film, I wondered why I had never heard of this story before because I'm usually up on news stories that make the national news. The story however occurred in the summer of 1974, right before I was entering my senior year of college and I believe I was working as a camp counselor and didn't have access to any news during that time. Before I go any further, I would like to insert a SUPER SPOILERS warning here.…

Text to Text The novel Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel reminds me a lot of the movie Mad Max: Fury Road. Both plots are centered around society after earth’s destruction. However, Mad Max is about what happens after the oil runs out, whereas Station Eleven follows the events after much of earth’s population is wiped out by a very contagious virus. Both books also share a similar character who play leadership roles, and these characters abuse their power.…

In War Dances, there are many interpretations of the world. Alexie ultimately seeks to ask how we as humans attempt to get familiar with one another and experience things amongst each other. Themes such as identity, change, loss and the past’s reach into the present connect the texts of War Dances together. In several parts of War Dances, there is a strong rejection to people being defined or judged. Alexie realizes the power of language and how it also fails to completely capture the human experience at the same time.…

Luke Richardson once said, “We need to change the culture of this topic and make it OK to speak about mental health and suicide.” Many would argue that the Netflix series, 13 Reasons Why, created by Brian Yorkey, has created an abundance of controversy regarding suicide, sexual assault, and bullying. These struggles are prominent concerns in today’s culture, more specifically in the culture of today's teens. 13 Reasons Why uses imagery and point of view within the series which allows viewers to gain insight into the tragic world of a suicidal teen. These elements also allow viewers to gain an understanding and awareness of suicide provoking situations throughout today's society.…

Also, when I put the pictures in there of the broken hearts I drop the music because it's a sad topic in the story. The movie Grace Is Gone by James Stokes, is a remarkable movie about a family who are going through the lost of loved one, and don’t know how to take the next necessary steps to move on. Grace is Gone, is a movie that I wouldn’t think would hit home with me from simply reading the title. Little to be told, at different moments in the movie I had to stop myself from shedding tears, because I am a daughter of a man who is in the military. For the twenty out of my twenty-four years of life my dad has been fighting for this country. I sympathize with Dawn and Heidi especially, because my worst nightmare turned into their reality and that is something that I prayed will never happened to my dad.…

The first-person view of this book without question takes the book to a whole nother level, adding an emotional effect to the book by showing what Jonas is feeling about each situation. It is also a very realistic book. It is obvious that the author likes realistic books when he adds, “in a TV show, McDowell would have been arrested Hartwell, there’d have been a trial, and then a jury would have sent him to prison for fifty years.…
