Claudia Gortarez: A Short Story

Just as all significant stories require, I must start from the beginning. I was born the third and final child to 25 year old Claudia Gortarez and 29 year old Gilbert Gortarez. My childhood, I remeber, was spectacular. I was always with my dad, so much so that I’m pretty sure I have become an exact replica of him. I was fortunate enough to go to a private Catholic school from Kindergarten all the way to the eighth grade. Naturall, I was faced with struggles similar to many children, but some were unique in their own ways. Allot my frankness, but these experiences did not break me, instead they shaped me into the person I am today and will forever be the building blocks of my growth. Accidents happen all the time, but some accidents can affect you in ways that you couldn’t foresee. When I was five I was mauled by a dog. This event caused me to miss almost all of my kindergarten year, I was behind on my academics, my reading level was not where it should be in order for me to move on to the first grade, and as a …show more content…
We lost our house and began moving roughly once every year, we would not stop until December of 2016. In 2010 we landed ourselves in a situation where seven people were living in a one bedroom house, but my parents, so focused on making sure their children received a good education and were safe when they went to school, made it possible for the three of us to continue attending private school and participate in extracurricular activities such as Girl Scouts and any sports we wanted try. On September 9th, 2016 I was a passenger in rear-end car accident. At the young age of seventeen, I was ignorant, rebellious and negligent. At this time, I honestly believed that I knew it all and was always in the right; I would ignore anyone trying to guide me towards the right path or give me advice. As in the short story “Rain of Fire” by Evan Thomas, I would have never expected that a regular day could end up in such catastrophe. I learned not to trust those whom I have not gotten to know well enough.…
