First Lady of the United States Claudia was born in Texas, in a town called Karnack on December 22, 1912. Her job as first lady was support the war on poverty. Her father was Thomas Jefferson Taylor, the largest landowner in Harrison County. He donated nearly 400 acres of property to people who were in need. Her mother was Minnie Pattillo Taylor married Thomas Taylor in Autauga County in Texas. She was very active when trying to stand up for women's rights. Claudia graduated high school and decided to attend the University of Texas with a bachelor’s degree in art because she wanted to be a newspaper reporter. Lyndon had volunteered as a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy, he received a silver star in Pacific, which is the third highest decoration for valor in combat. Claudia kept a record of her activities during the years her husband served as the 36th president of the United States. She shared a authored book with Carlton Lees called Wildflowers Across America. She served as honorary chairman during her White House Years. She earned a six year term as a member of The University of Texas System Board of Regents. Claudia was also a National Geographic Society trustee. Claudia had been awarded by many different Colleges and Universities that were interested in the activities that were located on the Texas campus in Austin. On Claudia’s seventieth birthday, she was founded the National Wildflower Research Center. This was a non profit environmental organization, that was dedicated to the preservation on re-establishment of native plants in natural places and landscapes. In honor of her eightieth birthday, many different contributions were handed to her as Lady Bird Johnson Conservation Award because she worked so hard to make this world a better place and change things up a
