Art that I liked. Untitled by Claudia Alvarado.
Claudia Alvarado is an artist from Spain. She is a believer of using art as a means of communication. She thought that women rarely expressed themselves through art which is why she took it upon herself to use art to express her feelings without fear of being judged.
In this piece of art, Claudia thought of human form and placed it all in painting. In the picture, there is the woman lying down. From a one-time look, it looks as if the woman is just relaxing, but from a closer look, it is not clear what she is thinking of or what has happened to her going by her facial impression. However, the colors used in the painting are bright and vibrant. The Color of the background is yellow, and yellow is a very bright color, it makes the painting lively. The horizon is blue, which is also a bright color, and the color of the human is the expected light shade of brown, it makes the painting lively. Although it is watercolor, the texture feels smooth. From the painting, various aspects of art such as contour lines in the entire set up have been used, giving the painting the flow that that it deserves. Imagine a giant cube of toothpicks being held together by just the weight of the other surrounding toothpicks, causing it to be so fragile and vulnerable yet so sturdy at the same time. Imagine a plethora of metal Slinky’s intertwined and entangled in such a way it looks as though they are wrestling with themselves while still supporting the entirety of itself. Women in History: Artemisia Gentileschi’s Self-Portrait as the Allegory of Painting Surrounded by portraits of and by male artists, Artemisia Gentileschi’s (1593-1652) oil on canvas Self-Portrait as the Allegory of Painting (La Pittura) 1638-39 stands out in the midst of Vancouver Art Gallery’s “The Royal Collections: Portrait of the Artist” exhibition. As one of the only woman artist portraits, it pronounces itself in entirety to symbolise the prominence she has given females in history as she paints herself as La Pittura. She depicts herself not as females had been seen before, but as a hard working artist in the MIDST of creating a work of art. One of the most recognizable writers of Artemisia’s Self-Portrait and Biography Mary D. Garrard had stated “[she] made an audacious claim upon the core of artistic tradition, to create an entirely new image that was quite literally unavailable to any male artist]”, and this is dominant reasoning for the intrigue Artemisia contains as a historical female figure…

In the painting, Christ is illuminated by being colored in with very pale colors, but he surrounded by a myriad of colors. Each person depicted in the painting, especially those in the foreground, are each wearing clothes that have different hues, such as the Virgin is wearing blue while the Saint John is wearing red. The colors of each of their clothing are quite intense adding to the energy of the scene. There is also a mix of warm and cool tones throughout the painting, which adds the disorder of the painting. Throughout history, visual art has been used as medium through which artists are able to express personal opinions as well political ideologies. It is clear, however, that opinions, as well as the way in which those opinions are presented to the public, vary greatly depending on the gender of the artist. The works Woman Bathing (1890-1891) by Mary Cassatt| and Woman in a Shallow Tub (1885) by Edgar Degas| both show women bathing, though there is a distinctive difference in the way that the subject matter is treated. The two artists are commonly associated with one another due to the fact that they were friends and regularly promoted each other’s works, though Cassatt was widely known to be a feminist, whereas many speculate that Degas was more traditional and leaned towards right wing ideologies. Though the subject matter doesn’t explicitly depict these political opinions, it is easy to see traces of those views in the way they treat the subjects of focus in their respective…

Existentialism is a reasoning that accentuates singular presence, flexibility and decision. People characterize their own significance in life, and endeavor to settle on valuable choices regardless of existing in a nonsensical universe. Both the ballad "The Man Had No Useful Work" and the painting "Lady and Bicycle", indicate Sartre principles of existentialism. The reason that I feel like they both show existentialism is because Sartre expresses that people are special, putting forth the expression that "human instinct" isn't settled and consistent, demonstrating that no individual is the same. Both the poem and the painting utilized self-knowledge which comes when you have your own uniqueness.…
