Many people have come to believe that Charles Schmid was only slightly narcissistic and egotistical, but not to the point of malignant narcissism. However, this is not the right way to think when it comes to Charles Schmid. Malignant narcissists, unlike normal narcissists, are destructive in nature, and are not afraid to inflict brutality towards others. They also have criminal tendencies. Charles Schmid was destructive in the sense that he murdered three people just for the sake of wanting to feel the thrill of killing.…

In America, it is evident that race is still an issue; this is seen through many occurrences. One event in particular is the recent story of Matthew Ajibade. The story of Ajibade immediately captured my attention due to the fact he’s a graduate of Parkdale Senior High School, just as I am. Many of my older colleagues recalled stories of him being a lively spirit that everyone loved. Although I did not personally know him, it made me realize that anyone can be affected and harmed.…

Dr. Joseph-Ignace Guillotin was not inventor of the guillotine, but his name has been associated with the machine because, as Jorne Fabricius notes, he was the one to “propose that mechanical decapitation was used to replace older cruder forms of execution”. Dr. Guillotin wanted the death penalty to be equal for all since previously, the rich got the axe/sword to the neck while commoners faced crueller techniques such as drowning, hanging, and being burnt alive. The history of the guillotine started long before the French Revolution as guillotine-like machines seem to have functioned in Germany, Great Britain and Italy before 1300, but any evidence is unclear (Fabricius). “The earlier machines replaced the axe, but the guillotine replaced the sword” (Fabricius).…

Marie-Joseph Angélique was a slave in the 1700s in the settlement of Montréal in New France. She was born in Madeira, Portugal and sold to work as a slave in New France at age 20. At age 29, in 1734 she was accused of starting a fire that burned down a hospital and 45 houses in Montréal. The question is, was Angélique really guilty of starting the fire, or was she innocent? When the information available is weighed, Angélique was innocent in the standards of today’s justice, since her confession was obtained through torture, most of the evidence was based on gossip, and that the society around her would think her guilty before even bringing her to trial.…
