Classroom Technology In Education

Technology is becoming increasingly more prominent in today’s day to day life. This change is becoming especially noticeable in the patterns of education. Curriculums are slowly converting to a more technology-centered focus. However, some school corporations still refuse to incorporate into their classroom setting. Computers provide an interesting additional media that encourages a new, different type of learning. All students should be allowed access to their personal or school-issued computers in all classes to create a better and more efficient learning environment.

Children must learn at a young how to showcase their strengths to their advantage. Without the aid of technology, students are forced to conform to restrictive standards that cannot best showcase their understanding of the material. With technology students would have more options on ways to display their understanding. Markovic proves this claim in her article, A New Model of Education: Development of Individuality through the Freedom of Learning, “New technologies allow for exploration of new areas of learning and thinking. These could support creative learning and innovative teaching and foster individual potential. Computer-based educational techniques and technologies have been considered as useful means for individualization”. Readily available classroom technology will help promote student expression and success by allowing for individuality.
Online courses offer the flexibility that busy students require to be successful. Students are always encouraged to get the most out of their schooling career by taking advantage of all extracurricular activities and clubs. However, these busy students are also expected to perform well in their classes. Some may say that computers make it too easy for kids to look up answers. In the words of Sharon Cromwell, “Internet sites such as School Sucks and Cheathouse.com brazenly hawk essays to students”. However, a vpn or Wi-Fi block on unsatisfactory sites can easily solve this cheating problem. Another point can be made for the frustration of computer glitches, “No matter how tech savvy you think you are, it’s amazing how an ounce of prevention will lead to fifteen minutes of not kicking a broken computer cart” (Grinvalds). This makes a very good point but the proper management such as versed IT employees can help solve this hindrance. Some teachers argue that technology allows too much freedom for their students such because, “Lesson planning can become more labor intensive with technology… It can seem overwhelming to adapt technology into your classroom” (The 6 Pros). While it may seem like more work for teachers at the first glance, technology can actually reduce their work load by introducing a classroom setting where students are not as reliant and dependent on their teacher for help and answers. Other opinions still point out that introducing more technology enforces an even deeper dependence on technology that kids are coming to rely on.
