Reflection: Screach, And Scratch Jr.

Good Essays
These last few weeks in lab and lecture, we have worked on several different activities. These activities have helped us develop different technological skills and also explore new apps and websites that we could someday use in our classrooms. We have also addressed specific content that we will be teaching, and how to use technology as an aid. In lab, we explored Scratch, and Scratch Jr. These are websites constructed to teach coding. We explored Scratch Jr. in order to understanding coding a little better. After about fifteen minutes of exploration, we moved onto Scratch. On Scratch, we created a card complete with animated characters and sound we also created a game. These new coding tools were challenging for me at first, because …show more content…
We played around on these apps and evaluated their mathematical value in a classroom. We discussed specific math content that we will be teaching in different grades, and how these apps could aid in their teaching.
Another activity that we did in lab was creating math content videos using Explain Everything. Explain Everything is an app that helps people create videos using many tools, such as audio, drawing tools, shape tools, laser pointers, text, and so on. We used Explain Everything to create math videos for students as Nevada Elementary School. At Nevada, they do self-paced math, so everything is online. In my video, I explained the order of operations and also included a Scratch game. The only trouble with this app is that it does not allow you to save and continue working on another device. An ISTE standard that fits well with everything that we have been working on in lab and lecture is standard number two: Design and develop digital age learning experiences and

This showed me that I need to stay up to date with new trends in technology. I feel as if many teachers are fearful of technology, but I want to be a teacher that embraces the use of new technology in my classroom to be a better teacher. I will definitely be using Explain Everything in my classroom to create videos and lessons. In lecture, I learned about self-paced math. The idea of completely online education is still new to me and I would like to learn more about it. Overall these activities have helped me realize that I need to continue to explore new technology and develop ways to bring it into my

But while I have spent countless hours learning how to build RESTFul on StackOverflow, I want to expand my knowledge beyond programming. I want the ability to analyze complex algorithms to figure out if a problem is solvable. I want to learn not just what the software development process is, but why the process is that way. I want to study assembly and hardware architecture, machine language, and everything related to the field. The education from the CSE program at UW Bothell will give me a better depth of knowledge that will not only help me reach my goal of becoming a Software Developer, but help make me a great one.…

What The focus of recent lectures and laboratory sessions has been on how to integrate technology with math as well as continuing to be introduced to new applications that encourage hands-on learning with students. Math being a subject I work hard to avoid as much as professionally possible, these lessons were helpful for getting me to face my greatest weakness and become more comfortable as well as resourceful with how I approach the topic in the classroom now and in the future. Working as a substitute teacher, I get the unique opportunity to take what I see out in the classrooms and connect it with what I learn in my courses, as well as I get to take what I learn in my college courses and use it to improve my skills as I substitute teach.…

How would you incorporate technology in your classroom? A. Incorporating technology in a Mathematics class is very important. I would like to introduce my students to Khanacademy.com website, creating their individual logins on that website so that they can practice every concept at home as well and I can help them by looking at their dashboards if they are finding any concept difficult. This will help me in keeping a track of every student’s performance.…

Both Mr. Johnson and Ms. Parker believe that by added technology into their classrooms makes the lessons and assignments more interactive as students can use the internet to go looking for answers to their questions. The aspect of adding something new to the classroom causes students to be more engaged in what they are learning. Allowing students to access the internet when learning causes a change in role for the teacher. Teachers are usually seen as knowledge dispensers that provide the knowledge to the students and the students are supposed to memorize it and regurgitate it back to them to prove their understanding. However, adding technology causes the teachers to become more of a facilitator in the students learning (Li, 2007).…

It is held during Computer Science Education Week, annually. This movement helps introduce participants of all ages into computer science (School Library Journal). Introduced students are usually taught coding skills through applications such as Scratch (Tech & Learning). According to Richmond Elementary School, “kindergarteners and first graders used app such as ScratchJr”, and older students used Code.org (School Library Journal). I have participated in this event twice during high school, and it has helped me become more interested in the computer science because there were helpers who provided great information about computer science and the work field.…

Throughout the “Our Work” tab there are many links you can search and find information and suggestions supporting this theory. The one I found most interesting the website provides teachers is a way to keep students engaged during algebra. CAST recognized that the subject of algebra is difficult to teach and engage students during these lessons. With this being said algebra is a subject students must learn and master in order to graduate high school. Because of this CAST has designed interactive apps that students can use tablets in class to play.…

In my Integrated Math class we were taught, by the instructor, the same way we should run a classroom. The lesson that stood out the most to me was a basic addition problem. We were given an equation and told to solve the problem any other way then using the standard algorithm because students are not taught the standard algorithm until they master the understanding of addition. The class came up with five or six different ways to solve the same problem. This caused our class to think “outside the box”.…

The authors of the article “Distinctions Between Computer Self-Efficacy Of Pupils And Teachers In Elementary School." call the kids born into this technology digital natives, and the teachers – digital immigrants. It is also a fact that because of this knowledge of how to use computers, it is almost as required for every classroom now days to have an electronic device in it. Teachers are the people who need to learn more so they can catch up with their students (Topolovcan and Matijevic). There are devices like IPad and other tablets, where the screen is touch screen and kids just need to know which icon what it says so they can navigate through the…
