Practicum Experience In The Classroom

Knowledge Throughout this practicum experience I gained many insights into classroom management, organization and instructional strategies. I would like to begin with classroom management, my facilitating teacher utilized the clip system and reward ticket system in her classroom. While the clip system is an excellent system in theory the success of it can be determined by how the teacher utilizes it. While in the field I found the clip system to be more of a threat to be leveraged against students. The same students were continually clipping down with little chance to clip up. Learning stations, worksheets, graphic organizers and interactive activities just to name a few. Learning stations is the one I witnessed the most and learned the most about. I learned that not all learning stations are beneficial and that as teachers we need to constantly reevaluate the stations we are employing in our classroom. A learning station that was once effective may no longer be effective later in the year. Chaos will have no place in my classroom which means organization will be fundamental; from the way that I set-up my classroom to the way that I store my supplies. When it comes to requiring students to sit still in not fidget, I find this to be unrealistic, I myself am unable to sit still through an entire class. There are many different strategies that I hope to employ in my classroom that will allow students to deal with their access energy but still focus on their school work. Technology is an intricate part of our world today, it is vital that we empower our students with the knowledge required to compete. By utilizing it in our classroom we show our students the many valuable ways that technology can enhance our world. All of these flow into assessment, when we enable our students to have options on how we assess them it allows them to shine. While some assessments will always be the same, for example spelling test, vocabulary tests and math tests, some assessments can be changed. Offering our students an option on how they show us what they have learned is key, social studies projects, book reports, science projects, and even some math projects can be done in many different ways.
