Describe your placement setting (urban, suburban, etc.)
PS 66 is located in an urban area. The school is located near a wide variety of access to transportation and has limited direct access to outside resources such as libraries. What are the special features of your placement?
Most of the special features of the school focused on special education, enhancing students physical abilities, and STEM. The school offered after school programs for each and had teachers say afterschool to help run the club. Each club featured activities that enhanced student’s knowledge in the field and even offered events to incorporate the parents. For example the club that promotes students abilities the club had an event to teach parents different strategies to get involved with getting their children to exercise and how to make better food choices. Each club was a special feature to the school because it helped to benefit the students in material they were interested in. The school offers special features such as the after school

This specific teacher does not just test only for skill performance, but he uses a variety of assessments in order to gauge if his students have an understanding of the topic regardless of ability. I think he manages different abilities in the classroom by considering beforehand the factors that can affect a student’s ability to participate while recognizing how activities can be adapted to better suit a students needs and utilizes what resources that can help in learning more or better manage specific students. Regards of the students’ abilities the teacher never allows the child to sit out and do nothing, instead he creates opportunities for the child to feel included even if it is things such as keeping score on the score

I thought the documentary “Waiting for Superman” was informative and also sad. Informative because we get a real idea about how schools are In the inner cities, and also how poor test scores are and how horribly we rank as a nation regarding school. Also, the method of “Tracking” which prior to this documentary I have never heard before, nor have I heard from the track being scores of obedience and appearance of neatness? What does that even mean? It also goes into how it’s nearly impossible to fire any teacher because of poor test scores from their students, which I think is really unfair.…

Due to a conflict I was unable to attend the Barr Middle School visit and went to Walnut Middle School in Grand Island, Nebraska instead. At Walnut Middle School, I observed Mrs. Coble, the seventh grad math teacher. At Northeast, I observed Mrs. Tobey, a fourth grade teacher. After observing both schools I came to the conclusion that the two schools are very different from one another.…

The good thing about this schools that I like is will motivate the students and tell them what exactly what to do also the teacher would help and see what every student is doing but the only thing is that the teacher do not gives any ideas to students when a students are not sure about an answer for a question. Also the teacher does not have the control of the classroom when students get noisy or get up from their desk. Some students are noisy and annoying and it’s very hard for a person to deal with so many students at the same time when they are noisy. I remember back in the days in high school some of the student were noisy and annoying or just throwing papers and it was hard for a teacher to take the control of the class. She just called the securities from the school to take them out the class.…

Throughout the time that I have spent within my field placement, the teacher has allotted various small increments of time for vocabulary. The teacher usually spends less than five minutes discussing vocabulary that the students will see in a new book or when there is a question about a new vocabulary word. If the teacher is introducing multiple new words, she will spend between ten to fifteen minutes introducing the words, explaining the definitions of the words (and explaining which definition fits the best for the circumstance), and allowing students to make connections with the words. Once the teacher introduces the new words, she puts the new words on the word wall. This allows the students to reference the word wall throughout the day.…

At least once a year there are tests in every school district that are made to evaluate students on what they learned and evaluate the teachers on what they have taught. 1,845,787 people took the ACT in 2014. In that same year 1,672,395 took the SAT. In this world people make standardized testing seem like it's a bigger deal than It really is. We should not do standardized testing because it does not effectively measure a student’s learning a teacher’s teaching and help colleges to be selective in admissions.…

For this field expert interview, I interviewed one of the first grade teachers, Mrs. Heckman, at the school where I work. I decided to conduct my interview on Mrs. Heckman for this particular assignment because last year I worked in her classroom during an undergrad course and I really liked her classroom management style. I believe that she is fulfills the expert aspect for this paper because like with most classes, she has a very diverse classroom when it comes to behaviors, yet it is clearly apparent that her class is more managed when comparing other classrooms. Mrs. Heckman has 38 years of teaching experience where she has taught third grade for eight years; kindergarten for ten years; and first grade for twenty years. The following…
