I have been going to my local homeschool co-op for a short time compared to everyone else. In my short few months that I have been going there helping out and learning, I have noticed some very big problems. A few of these problems are, preparedness of the students and teachers, the classes never end on time, sometimes the kids are too loud, and everything feels really rushed. Most of these problems stem from a lack of organization within the group and can easily be fixed. This would cut down the preparation time so they would have more time to focus on other things, instead of trying to rush five minutes before class starts trying to figure out what the plan …show more content…
None of the kids are bad, but some of them just love to talk. Kids usually like to talk and that's okay, but they need to understand that there are times when it is okay to talk to friends in the class and when to listen to the tutor and be respectful. Like if a the teacher is speaking they shouldn't talk or when another student is giving a presentation. The main classes that have this problem are the classes with students ages six to twelve, although my solution would help all classes with children of all ages. The tutors could come up with a set of rules based on the age group of their class and post it on the board so the kids can see it. Also if the tutors wanted to, they could have to kids help make the list of rules. This would allow the kids to be more involved and would improve the likelihood of them following the

This proves how difficult and unreliable it would be to assess the knowledge of students when they work in a group. Teacher supervision, or lack thereof, is a major problem in classes where projects or labs are done in groups. Very often, there are multiple groups of, on average, three to four students, but only one teacher. No matter how experienced and professional a teacher may be, it is physically impossible for them to have their eyes and ears on every single one of those groups. This results in an increased amount of off topic discussion.…

I can empathize with teachers who say that the observation and evaluation process does not seem reciprocal in nature. Most of my follow-up evaluations have either been waived or conducted in five minutes or less in which the principal hits upon the highlights of my observation. Very few teaching lessons have been learned through these interactions. In her article though, Shelly Arneson includes sound practices that can be implemented to alleviate many of the concerns of the evaluation process. Her basic premise is to shift the dialogue from inspection-based conversation to a reflection-based conversation.…
