Classroom Observation Paper

This observation was supposed to take place someplace outside of my comfort zone. Outside of my comfort zone would typically be any place outside of my home town Islip. I chose to make my observations at the West Islip Public Library which is ironically not as close as one would expect to be from Islip. To begin my observations, I parked my car in the parking lot and peered out my windows. In front of me was a black Chevy SUV. In the car I noticed there was a red bandana hanging from the rear view mirror. Due to a personal experience, and being told gang members enjoy “showing off their colors," I was led to believe the owner or driver of the car was a part of a gang. Unfortunately, the driver of the car never entered his car during my observation, …show more content…
There were another pair of individuals who exited the library. One man and one women. The guy was about 6 feet tall, while the girl was riding a motor scooter. They were both highly overweight. The guy had a gut that protruded further out of his stomach than any other person I saw in my field of view. I did not notice and hair on the man’s head from where I sat, so I believe he was bald. The girl appeared to have more weight on her than the guy. While she sat on the scooter, I noticed she had skin, most likely pushed out by body fat, under her shirt that rested over her waist. She had thin amber colored hair. This man and women were around the same age, approximately 63 to 67 and both shared a blush skin tone. They both entered a fairly aged car, that was most likely new when the first bought it. I believe this because they wouldn't need a new car at their age, and most likely held onto the car they previously owned. There was another women that exited the library who appeared younger in age than the last couple, but older than the drivers of the Ford and Subaru. She looked to be in her 40’s and had short blonde hair that was cut at the length of below her

He was bigger than the average man and had a beard that reached his chest. It was apparent he hadn’t taken a shower in a while and he didn’t appear to have a home. Immediately everyone, including me started to judge him and we doubted he would buy anything. We thought he was just trying to find a spot to hang out for the day, but he did eventually make a purchase. He ordered an ice cream cone and proceeded to take out a small tea set and put it next to him, at this point it hit us like a train going full speed around a corner.…

When observing a special education classroom I am not only observing the class, but I am observing a glimpse into my future as a teacher. I was privileged enough to observe a multi-needs intermediate classroom with students who range from eight to ten year olds at Hope D. Wall School who have moderate to server learning disorders and physical handicaps. The purpose of the multi-need classroom is for the teacher to assess which path the student will take after the year is over. For an example some students might need more intensive guidance during their education, while other students attend life skills classes in order to prepare for life outside of school. While I was observing the class, I was fortunate enough to witness the students participate…

The setting of my 2nd focus child was a Little Bucs in the preschool room (Inventors) in the classroom, but we did visit the ETSU library during my first observation. They are 48 months-60 months. I observed a 48 month old, male. I will refer to the student I observed as "P." I observed from 10:00-11:30 both sessions. Victims identified him as either a dark-skinned Latino or a light-skinned African American. Accordingly, if an officer made a traffic stop in the area and noticed that the driver had a gold tooth and was black or Latino, the driver probably would have been asked to step out of his car, frisked and possibly even taken to the station house for a line-up. Some 15 men were stopped before a bike officer caught the actual criminal jaywalking (Heather Donald,…

In the Pre-K classroom that I observed it consisted of several different centers for the children to participate in, such as: block area, dramatic play, art, library, sand/water table, music/movement, sensory area, finger painting, play dough, and the students got the opportunity to make their own snacks. Not only did the students get to participate in centers, they had the opportunity each day to go outside and play on the playground as well as having an interactive lecture every morning at circle time and when the students sat down at their tables to do their daily worksheet. I believe that the Pre-K class I observed was a mix between traditional teaching as well as constructivism, creating a balance between the two. In the morning during circle time, the teacher would “lecture” the students with the letter of the day, go over the date, months, days of the week, shapes, and the numbers up to the date it currently was.…

On November 28, 2017, I spent my fourth day with class 3-213 at P.S. 45. During this time, I felt I was able to confidently encounter, converse, and assist the children with varying subject matters. At this point, the children even felt comfortable enough to ask me for help. Additionally, my cooperating teacher, Mrs. Jessica Diaz, is still extremely helpful and even allows me to teach the students in small-groups. By working in small-groups, I have been able to facilitate learning on an individualized level.…

I really enjoyed the time I spent in Mrs. Flinn’s fourth grade classroom over Spring Break. I was able to observe for a total of four hours between Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning. During my time with the fourth graders, I took a closer look at the solid behavior classroom supports being used. Along with these supports, I was extremely impressed by the way Mrs. Flinn handled classroom management. Even though I observed during a very exciting week, she had great control over her students.…
