My observation hours took me to a public school in Queens, NY 4th grade classroom. During my observation I came across some notable issues some that concern a single child, a small group of children and some relationships among children or between children and adults. Some of these observations were positive and some negative as everyday there is space for improvement in a classroom. As an observer each day can provide a new opportunity to learn how to better manage a classroom. ????
The school on average has 670 students attending and of those students the majority race is Black followed by Hispanic. The 4th grade classroom I observed had 28 students in it and was set up so that childrens desks were 4 in a bundle facing eachother. This type of formation allowed for constant peer interaction if required by teacher to share some type of work, or discuss a given topic. These groups were set-up by last name so they seemed arbitrary to level of distribution to learning success the kids might be operating on. This set-up however they did cause some groups to be unbalance in their gender distribution. There were 2 tables with only

In the ”morning welcome” the teacher asked if the kids had anything to share about their evenings or commute to school. Most of the kids begin talking out loud and over each other. The class became disruptive as they all begin speaking out loud and over each other. The teacher attempts to silence them were won by pointing to show ond student David had raised his hand. Before hearing what David had to say she praised him for knowing that raising his hand was the correct action. The teacher asked if anyone else would like to raise their hand and contribute, several other students did and she thanked them for raising their

I agree with the author that the socioeconomic makeup of a school plays an important role, but the school I attend, Logan High School, has many reasons to justify that it does not follow his generalization. First of all, there is only one school system in our county. With many schools for pre-school, elementary, and middle school, the socioeconomic makeup is dispersed throughout the schools. However, having only a single high school in the school system causes a different scenario. The socioeconomic makeup is shown through groups within the physical school building in contrast to separate schools or school systems.…

The setting of my 2nd focus child was a Little Bucs in the preschool room (Inventors) in the classroom, but we did visit the ETSU library during my first observation. They are 48 months-60 months. I observed a 48 month old, male. I will refer to the student I observed as "P." I observed from 10:00-11:30 both sessions. The classroom was reasonably big, but the floor was opened with toys and an upstairs area where the students can go and hang up there.…

It is not fair for students to be grouped by their race or their education. The upper-level classes may be served well by the separation, but the students in the lower-level classes were suffering because they were all separated. It’s not fair for the lower-level classes to be suffering because of people who are not as educated as they are. The schools that are having this problem need to try to get…

In the Pre-K classroom that I observed it consisted of several different centers for the children to participate in, such as: block area, dramatic play, art, library, sand/water table, music/movement, sensory area, finger painting, play dough, and the students got the opportunity to make their own snacks. Not only did the students get to participate in centers, they had the opportunity each day to go outside and play on the playground as well as having an interactive lecture every morning at circle time and when the students sat down at their tables to do their daily worksheet. I believe that the Pre-K class I observed was a mix between traditional teaching as well as constructivism, creating a balance between the two. In the morning during circle time, the teacher would “lecture” the students with the letter of the day, go over the date, months, days of the week, shapes, and the numbers up to the date it currently was.…
