While conducting my student observations; I have gathered up a few inferences about my subject. Over the span of three weeks I recorded observations made solely on things I examined visually. I did not make personal contact, instead I watched my subject from a far. By examining my subject in this manner I was limited only to what I saw to make inferences. My subject’s appearance, social class, and habits all play a role in her interactions with society, and tell me a little about her as an individual in society.
As I tracked the style and types of outfits my subject had, I noticed a trend. She appeared to dress fashionably, often wearing name brand items. She frequently wore dresses, skirts, dress shirts, and things of that nature, which indicated to me a sense of high fashion and sophistication. She also wore accessories such as necklaces, bracelets, and earrings to match her outfits.

The subject owned items that were expansive which led me to think that she has a job, or she comes from a well employed family. Her car keys indicated to me that she could drive, and had a vehicle which was her own. By the way the subject talked about the vehicle saying things such “ my car” I deduced that it was hers and not her parts car. A car is a big expanse along with the other items listed above. Based off the things the subject owns I inferred that she was at least a middle class citizen or higher. Other contributing factors to my assumptions were the area and school which the subject was in. Fairfax county can be a pricy place to live along with it being occupied by a majority of middle class families or higher. Lately the school which the subject attended Woodson high school, is also mainly populated with middle class

In a separate and unrelated qualitative research project, nine counselors interviewed various teenagers and young adults on how they think of socioeconomic status (SES) and class status. While being interviewed, one subject stated the following about how she would determine SES: “Mostly, how much money you are making.” (Cook & Lawson, 2014). Although this can be a determining factor, this definition does not fully encompass SES. She later goes on to expand on her thoughts: I look . . .…

Lloyd Warner identified six social classes in the United States; which consist of: upper-upper class, the blueblood of America; lower-upper class, individuals who possess more money than others in the upper-upper class; the upper-middle class, the white-collar professionals; the lower-middle class, the white-collar residue; the upper-lower class, the blue-collar residue; and the lower-lower class, the jobless. Based on these social classes, I would put myself in the lower-middle class because of my personal experience of working with my brain and my hands to complete certain types of challenges of my daily life. From the information gathered from the six social classes, my personal experiences have influenced me to being part of the lower-middle…

Stranger Paper Observation is a key factor in understanding who a person is and what makes up who they are. Not only were we the odd bunch for living in Miami Beach but also for going to a private school. Others around me did not share similar experiences that I did. As an adolescent and as a young adult, I was aware that we were not wealthy or rich but we were well off as ‘middle classers”. In the 2000s, in my teen years, my parents decided to be homeowners and bought a house North of Miami. A few years later, my dad purchased his dream car, a Honda Pilot.…
