I am currently student teaching in a 4th grade classroom at Sunset Elementary under my master teach, Alissa Nakaji. Upon my first day, I instantly fell in love with the dynamics of the classroom. The classroom had colorful posters explaining rules, consequences, inspirational quotes, and a list of roles for each student (changed weekly). This classroom feels more like a community of students striving together to have an optimal learning experience instead of just one teacher demanding and controlling the students. It is very autonomous and the teacher is involved only when needed.…

About five minutes from my house, in between Holmes Road and Wornall Road, on 107th street, sits Red Bridge Elementary. A brick school that was not very big, but had a massive playground behind it spanning what seemed to be the size of 3 football fields, Red Bridge taught grade kindergarten through fifth grade. Walking in the front entrance, the office of the principal is straight on your right and there is a hallway going left and right and off of that hallway are two hallways that go straight. Down the right hallway is the younger kids such as the kindergarten and first grade classrooms and down the left hallway are the fourth and fifth grade classrooms. Each day kids pile off the bus into the school to see what the day has in store for them.…

While completing my walkthroughs for CED 100, I discovered many things about education and teaching that helped me on finalizing my decision to teach Middle School History. After completing all four hours in lower elementary education, upper elementary education, middle school education, and high school education, I had a very good understanding of how classes were conducted and how students from different age groups react to different forms of teaching. My first encounter in a classroom, at Model, was with Mrs. Noland’s lower elementary classroom. When I walked in, my first thought was, “chaos.”…

When I walked into the preschool classroom, I noticed it was very large and very spacious which allowed enough space for each child. Natural light, provided there was no glare in the room, was able to help students learn more effectively. Upon entering the class, I quickly noticed all the children curiously turn to look who I was while they were having large group time for half an hour. During that time, they sang songs, had calendar time and the teacher did an overview of the day. I was very impressed at how cooperative they were for her.…
