The creative team in collaboration with the academic team will identify best practices by analyzing teacher instructions quality. In this regard, a performance-based rubric will be created to assess instructional approaches to quantify the level of effectiveness of Art-infused lessons. Additionally, Sheridan school will have their online Resource Center site available for public sharing. We also will publish our Art-integrating ideas in the Perpich Arts outreach site under “Resource for the Classroom” which is a well-known online resource for school collaboration.…
I like how it talks about artistic production and teaching. Because having art in the schoolroom is an excellent idea. I like how the article pointed out the institutions in which art education exists: Art teacher education should continue to emphasize practices that are appropriate to the production and understanding of visual images and objects, while providing students with an understanding of the contexts of schooling that they are apt to encounter that are incompatible with their approach to teaching. Strategies for communicating with parents, colleagues, and administrators in order to advocate for progressive approaches to art teaching should be central to the undergraduate art education curriculum. At the school and district levels, art educators should find allies within their own field and related areas of the curriculum in order to actively build alliances and affect school policies and understandings of the range of pedagogies that are traditional and effective within the arts and across subject areas.…
Kindergarten social hierarchies were determined using a modification of a naturalistic behavioral observation method developed to assess individual dominance positions in preschool classrooms (Strayer & Trudel, 1984). Classroom interactions were observed during the winter months of the kindergarten year (prior to the spring assessment of externalizing symptoms) during structured, semi structured, and free play activities. Social dominance was operationally defined as a pattern of repeated interactions in which the outcome consistently favors the same dyad member (Drews, 1993). Research assistants underwent training in the recognition and scoring of a range of dominance-subordination behaviors, which included object and attention acquisition…
I was able to see how my teacher prepared for parent-teacher conferences my last day observing at Rawsonville. She explained how important it is to have a nice jacket and a change of shoes. She said that putting on another pair of shoes can help with comfort and give an energy boost. Furthermore, she said that after talking all day it is important to brush your teeth and fix makeup as to refresh yourself and be presentable. My teacher never sits at the front of the table or behind her desk because she explained it can create a disconnect and make her seem like an authoritative figure.…
I have known Ashley since she was a toddler. I have not only had the privilege to watch her grow up, but to watch her grow into a talented teacher. For the past few years, we have worked together to create a team of college students to instruct Vacation Bible School, last year we added the opportunity to travel to other churches in Minnesota. Ashley is committed to excellence in every aspect of the requirements of this unique opportunity. Ashley continuously showed her proficiency as a teacher working with a expansive range of student ages and abilities.…
We are the 4 Amigos, and our group is made up of Cole Holmen, Teran Frana, Brian Lewis, and Brandon Kilbourn. We are making a school board presentation for Mrs. Kuhn’s Creative Expressions class. The idea our group chose was having fun activities at the end of all Trimesters. We are doing homebase activities so that we can have activities at the end of every trimester. We are going to accomplish our objective by showing our presentation to the board of the school.…
This week was the second time I was able to observe a second grade classroom. During my observation I was able to experience different approaches of my host teacher to teach math. I was also able to learn through observation how the teacher have the classroom set up for her students to learn. I had the opportunity to ask my host teacher about the best practice of teaching mathematics. She shared with me that the best way to teach math to young children is by not giving them the answer.…
This observation was supposed to take place someplace outside of my comfort zone. Outside of my comfort zone would typically be any place outside of my home town Islip. I chose to make my observations at the West Islip Public Library which is ironically not as close as one would expect to be from Islip. To begin my observations, I parked my car in the parking lot and peered out my windows. In front of me was a black Chevy SUV.…
My observation hours took me to a public school in Queens, NY 4th grade classroom. During my observation I came across some notable issues some that concern a single child, a small group of children and some relationships among children or between children and adults. Some of these observations were positive and some negative as everyday there is space for improvement in a classroom. As an observer each day can provide a new opportunity to learn how to better manage a classroom.…
I observed a 3 year old boy named B.C. in his classroom during the show and tell activity, Friday September 30 at 9: 45 a.m. Most of the children brought toys, only B.C. brought a metal tool, when the teacher noticed that B.C. had a metal tool on his hand, she told him that she had to keep it because it wasn’t save to him. He was upset and told her “this is my dad’s tool and I want to keep it”. The teacher answered “I know that tool is yours, but I want to keep safe until you present it to the class”.…
I chose a student who was having difficulty staying on task during carpet time and at her desk. While at her seat, she talks to her group members or others around her. She gets distracted easily and is constantly moving. This behavior began effecting her ability to complete work, as well as, distracting others around her.…
Much of what I am observing in Mrs. Logan’s class is repetitive, however, this last week after completing their math worksheets, she had the students work on addition, subtraction and amount vocabulary (larger, smaller, less, more, equal). To complete this task, she had one teacher using cards that showed the number and an equal number of shapes (card 5 would have 5 stars). She gave each student 2 cards and asked them to either add or subtract the two numbers. She then would ask the students who had the most or the least. This was fun to watch because they would get so excited when they could come up with the answer and “won” the question.…
In my setting I observed random people, majority of them were students. I never observed the same group of people, there was always a constant wave of new faces. In Sinclair library at the University of Hawaii at Manoa the population is extremely diverse. The largest population is the Asian ethnicity, followed by Caucasians. Hispanic/Latino, Black or African American, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, make up the other portion of the demographics.…
On Wednesday, February 15th, I observed one of the three 4th grade classes at Thomas A. Edison Elementary School in Port Chester, New York. There were twenty-four students in the class that day, 99% of the students were Hispanic, six of them were English Language Learners, eight of them had IEPs, and one child had a 504 plan due to a lost limb. Class started with their morning routine; Ms. Simmons greeted the children as they walked into the classroom, they hung up their backpacks in the closet and gathered their notebooks for the day. There were four children helpers who were assigned specific jobs as taking attendance, collecting homework, taking lunch orders, and collecting field trip forms. During this time the teacher sat on a corner table…
On October 2nd and 9th, I went to the Northampton elementary school in the Klein ISD district from 8:30 – 2:30 to go observe some of the teachers. Both days I had 3 separate classrooms. My split amount of time each classroom consisted of an hour and 30 minutes in each class. I observed majority of the daily routine the teachers went through. During my time I was able to see each subject being taught and a variety of ages being taught.…
