While observing at P.S 105 X in The Bronx, Mrs. Downs’s second grade classroom is a surprisingly calm, regular classroom with 25 students. The classroom was filled with the students, teacher and paraprofessional. Usually, there is another co-teacher in the classroom; however, she was on maternity leave. When entering the classroom, I could see on the other side of the room, against the windows the wall was filled with books, as well as bins in the back of the classroom. The wall is switched out each month with different books that go along with the unit.…

I went to Cranberry Elementary and the principal picked out classrooms for me to visit. I visited Mrs. Feo’s third grade class and Mrs. Gordon’s second grade class. Both of the teachers had strategies on how they arranged the seating chart. Mrs. Gordon’s class was in a portable so she didn’t have lots of space to use. In both classrooms, the bulletin boards had the students work displayed.…

The setting of my 2nd focus child was a Little Bucs in the preschool room (Inventors) in the classroom, but we did visit the ETSU library during my first observation. They are 48 months-60 months. I observed a 48 month old, male. I will refer to the student I observed as "P." I observed from 10:00-11:30 both sessions. The classroom was reasonably big, but the floor was opened with toys and an upstairs area where the students can go and hang up there.…

At 1730 hours, I arrived and was eventually briefed by Sergeant Dalton #5174 of the circumstances of events up to that point. After the briefing Sergeant Hopkins assigned me to conduct the crime scene investigation. The classroom was originally secured by Phoenix Police Department prior to the search warrant being signed. At 1830 hours, I started the crime scene investigation by directing evidence technicians Tyson #1234 and Jones Jr.#5678 to take overall photographs of the scene.…

For this assignment, I decided to visit Wayne Township Preschool which was one of my placements for my special education class last year. It visited the classroom that I was in last year and was able to see some of my old students. The WTP is located on High School Rd. and Washington St and is connected to Ben Davis University High School. It is a pretty big school with 294 students enrolled in pre-school and 102 enrolled in child care ranging for 3-5 years of age.…

Over winter break, I had the opportunity to work as a substitute preschool teacher at the Jewish Community Center of Columbus Ohio. I was placed in the Turtle Room, the classroom for two to three year olds. Since a large part of the student population is Jewish, the preschool cafeteria only provided Kosher foods. I distinctly remember one day talking to the lead teacher in the classroom, Amanda about how one little boy, Henry would never eat his lunch or snacks. Henry would stick to only the foods that he knew like mandarin oranges or carrots and that was all he would eat.…

The observation this writer conducted took place at a Mother’s Day celebration. It was held at a local daycare center, which was conveniently located within the New York City Housing Authority Complex. This observation took place in a classroom where all the parents, which consisted of mothers, were sitting on chairs, waiting for their children’s performance. The performance was scheduled in the following order: 2-3 year-olds singing first, then 3-4 year-olds singing second, and 4-5 year-olds singing last.…

This observation was supposed to take place someplace outside of my comfort zone. Outside of my comfort zone would typically be any place outside of my home town Islip. I chose to make my observations at the West Islip Public Library which is ironically not as close as one would expect to be from Islip. To begin my observations, I parked my car in the parking lot and peered out my windows. In front of me was a black Chevy SUV.…

In the Pre-K classroom that I observed it consisted of several different centers for the children to participate in, such as: block area, dramatic play, art, library, sand/water table, music/movement, sensory area, finger painting, play dough, and the students got the opportunity to make their own snacks. Not only did the students get to participate in centers, they had the opportunity each day to go outside and play on the playground as well as having an interactive lecture every morning at circle time and when the students sat down at their tables to do their daily worksheet. I believe that the Pre-K class I observed was a mix between traditional teaching as well as constructivism, creating a balance between the two. In the morning during circle time, the teacher would “lecture” the students with the letter of the day, go over the date, months, days of the week, shapes, and the numbers up to the date it currently was.…

On my first day of observing Mrs. Albita’s 4th grade classroom, I first noticed how she selected the student that would write the objective for the day. Mrs. Alba has a jar with popsicle sticks that contain the names of all the students in her class. She selects one stick and that student is responsible for writing the class objective correctly. First the student has to listen to the teacher carefully. Next, the student writes down what he/she heard.…

I really enjoyed the time I spent in Mrs. Flinn’s fourth grade classroom over Spring Break. I was able to observe for a total of four hours between Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning. During my time with the fourth graders, I took a closer look at the solid behavior classroom supports being used. Along with these supports, I was extremely impressed by the way Mrs. Flinn handled classroom management. Even though I observed during a very exciting week, she had great control over her students.…

Learning is one of the most imperative aspects of a child’s life, they begin learning far before they even comprehend what it means to learn. As they grow, their parents teach them good and bad and right from wrong, the most basic forms of education. Soon enough they are exposed to daycare and other social settings, and are learning to separate from their parents and cooperate with other children. Finally they start school and are ready to complicate their education with numbers and words that will slowly start to make sense. To help analyze this process, I interviewed an eleven year old girl named Sasha Brown.…
