School is not just a place to learn in a classroom; it is also a place to explore your personal interests and learn from your classmates. I have participated in many different school activities over the past few years.

I started learning flute when I was in Grade 3. My biggest motivation for learning the flute was probably the fact that I wanted to be in a band. I remember when my brother used to be in the school band and I would go to his performances. After watching the first performance, I was already captured by the music. I really wanted to make music with other people and do something that involves teamwork. Picking up the flute was actually not that hard since I had piano as a foundation, but actually playing in a band was a completely

When I got to grade 6, I immediately signed up for Spanish ALP, which is a course that you take after school twice a week. Although Spanish has some similarities with English, learning it was still quite challenging at first, considering it was a completely new language to me. There were a couple of times I considered dropping Spanish because it became too challenging, especially when I had to miss classes for about 3 months due to my horseback riding accident. However, I am glad I continue to persist as I was committed to the learning and it would be a pity to lose all my …show more content…
In the club, I got to read well-written books and carefully discuss them with other like-minded people. I always found learning about literary characters very interesting, so I found the club is a good fit for me. A book I truly enjoyed discussing in the club was Bridge To Terabithia by Katherine Paterson. The book is about a powerful friendship that is forged between two fifth-graders named Jesse and Leslie. Jesse simply wants to fit in while Leslie taught Jesse to stand up for himself and realize that the world has no limits. Leslie instilled a spirit in him that could never be erased, even when tragedies occur. In the club, I particular enjoy the active discussion of the theme of the book, and it is interesting to see how people interpret the book differently. For this book, I perceive it as learning to overcome loss, while other see it as taking responsibility for

My experiences, academic background and personality are three key aspects of my life that make the medical field a preference and a particularly suitable field for me. My interest in medicine was first sparked when I volunteered at CentraState Medical Center working with geriatric patients. To further explore this interest, I joined the First Aid Squad in my town. Riding on ambulances and volunteering at the squad provided much-needed insight into the field and taught me valuable skills, such as patient care and effective communication. After completing a four-month intensive EMT course and state exam, I can proudly say that I am now a New Jersey certified EMT.…

In my life, I have been blessed to be healthy, loved, and cared for. I do not consider myself to be in a position to say I have overcome adversity when there are many people that truly have. Nevertheless, I have overcome myself and realized who I am. Growing up, I have been surrounded by two cultures: Puerto Rican and American, my mother being Puerto Rican and my father being Scottish-Irish-American. Yet, I felt ashamed of my Hispanic culture, mostly because people never considered me as Puerto Rican by my physical appearance.…

In order to ensure that all students are on task and that they understand the activities, I will explain each activity in detail in a whole group setting. I will explain and model or show examples of each activity to my students before I break them into groups to complete the activities. Explaining everything in detail before beginning the assignments will allow the students to know what is expected of them for each activity. Susan Cain in her book, “Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World that Won’t Stop Talking” writes, “There’s zero correlation between being the best talker and having the best ideas.” This idea is especially relevant in today’s school systems where so much pressure is put on classroom participation. In recent years the question has been posed of whether or not grading based on classroom participation, which has been the norm in many classes for years, is really the best way to engage students. There are many problems with grading participation, the main issue being that, with the recent influx of research done on the differences between introverted and extroverted learners, it has become apparent that grading for something as subjective as classroom participation may not be the best method to…
