The ten given tips mentioned in the video all seemed to be very effective ones to implement in the classroom if done correctly. Classroom management is crucial, and can definitely make a difference in-between a well ran room and a chaotic classroom. The first tip mentioned was beginning the year tough. I definitely believe teachers have to set the stage of what is expected and stand their ground to instill the procedures and expectations into the students, but this should also not be taken to extreme measures where students are uncomfortable or scared to be in the class. Teachers will tend to expect lower expectations from students that may struggle in the subject or always cause disruptions, but reminding them and going over expectations everyday will instill in them that the teacher knows they can do their best if they just try. This can become difficult at times, but a teacher must always believe that each student can follow the classroom expectations and succeed on an assignments. The fifth tip suggested in the video was incentives for good behavior. I have seen a variety of ways teachers give these in the classroom, for example Dojo points. During one of my field experiences, a teacher gave Dojo points all through out the day that went towards PBIS days or options of free time. This work great for her classroom, if students were becoming unfocused and off task she would pull up the Dojo screen and give rewards to the students that were behaving appropriately and on task. This set the tone for the classroom, the rest of the students got back on task and corrected their behavior. This is a great strategy to use in the classroom if the points will lead up to a bigger reward, so the students have motivation to work towards a goal or if points are only given when …show more content…
A teacher should always over plan incase certain activities don’t take as long as anticipated. It is always a good idea to have back up plans that could include things you know students need extra work to fill in for the rest of the time. The seventh tip was having a disciplinary plan in the classroom this a major key in classroom management. These plans should be created together as a class so the students feel ownership in what is expected everyday and can be held accountable since each student helped create it. Although in the video it did mention purchasing a classroom amplification system to use when your class is too loud, I would disagree with this. If we are implementing these classroom management skills, we should be avoiding these times that we would ever need to use a microphone to get your class to become quiet. I feel like at that point, a teacher has not been implementing the expectations created each day and enforcing them properly. The eighth tip was focusing on relationships with the students.
