The Wongs believe that one of the most important factor affecting student’s learning is the way teachers manage the classroom. Therefore, the applications used by the teacher should be clarification, script what teacher will say, write out procedures for all students, and have students practice these procedures. Furthermore, there are three simple steps that the teacher can follow to ensure that students follow procedures automatically; explanation, demonstration, and practice. The Wongs believe that it is of crucial importance that teachers spend the first two week of classes to teach procedures that will become routine throughout the school year. Management of procedures is essential in effective teaching because if students are prepared to do what is expected without surprise, then they do not have a chance to misbehave. Shorter assignments, intersperse questions, teacher-made tests, and frequent tests increases student performance, which is also indicates the teacher’s effectiveness.
